BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) Payments for dead wolves. Unlimited hunting of the animals. Shooting wolves from the air.
Wolf hunting policies in some states are taking an aggressive turn, as Republican lawmakers and conservative hunting groups push to curb their numbers and propose tactics shunned by many wildlife managers.
In Montana, lawmakers are advancing measures to allow shooting wolves at night and payments to hunters reminiscent of bounties that widely exterminated the species last century. Idaho legislation would allow hunters to shoot them from motorized parachutes, ATVs or snowmobiles year-round with no limits in most areas.
And in Wisconsin, just weeks after President Donald Trumps administration lifted protections for wolves in the Great Lakes region, hunters using hounds and trappers blew past the states harvest goal and killed almost twice as many as planned.

(11,686 posts)There is NO REASON to be killing wolves!!! Those assholes lie when they say those wolves are destructive and dangerous. They just enjoy destroying life of any kind. They will do what Palin does and shoot them and leave them there to suffer while dying. What I want to say would get me banned a from here so I will just let you all figure out what I would say.
I absolutely love wolves and believe they are majestic creatures and know they are no where near like what the repukes say they are like.

(6,556 posts)I have taken part in wolf restoration projects since the 1970s. Only the willfully ignorant are stuck in the "Red Riding Hood" past. Wolves kill to eat and feed their pups. The Minnesota DNR has a wolf management plan that is available at:
https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/wolves/index.html#:~:text=The%20DNR%20is%20committed%20to%20ensuring%20the%20long-term,with%20tribal%20partners,%20is%20prepared%20for%20this%20transition.
"The DNR is committed to ensuring the long-term survival of the wolf in Minnesota and minimizing and resolving conflicts between wolves and humans. Effective Jan. 4, 2021, Minnesota wolves are managed solely by state and tribal authorities. The state, along with tribal partners, is prepared for this transition."

(70,567 posts)Apex predators are the keystone to healthy ecosystems and if you are a rancher and you lose
livestock to wolves then you can be paid for your losses and if the wolf keeps coming back it
can be removed or shot.

And screw the chumps that want this. What a bunch of weaklings. They're as bad as the Chinese. Killing a wolf doesn't make you a man, it makes you a coward because you are too fearful to co-exist. Hell putting it that way explains a lot about Republicans doesn't it?

(7,917 posts)public lands and wildlife protection. It is part of an insidious strategy to defeat and diffuse federal and state regulation of lands the extraction industries (Coal, Oil, Gas, along with valuable minerals like uranium and gold, and Timber) view as their property for exploitation and development. They invented the movement to sell federal and state lands off and have put enormous sums in the hands of local, state and national candidates as investments in future access and sales.
Taking Wolves off the protected list is one of a number of steps which reinforce the idea that land is meant to be consumed to a purpose, not left in a natural condition. Having them shot to extinction removes one more barrier of protection: No more wolves to preserve means no need to preserve habitat for them and any other members of that ecosystem.
The people behind this are not local officials but multinational, oil, gas, and mining conglomerates with billions invested in extraction which feeds the energy consuming world economy they tell us we can't escape. They are as ruthless and driven as the man they helped put in office for the preceding 4 years, along with the Senators and Congress members who abetted him, and them. They also provided a handy list of Judges and Administrators who are sympathetic, and motivated to favor exploitation and reduce or resist regulation. Just like Ms. Chao, her husband, the recently retired Mr. Zinke, and many others.

(22,128 posts)Big ranchers have also tried to exterminate wolves for years--many on land that they lease, for pennies, from the government. They try to claim the wolves kill their cattle, when there's not much evidence other than losing ones that are already weakened in some way. Losing the occasional calf is a small price to pay to for the honor to co-exist with wolves. Commercial ranchers have the same kill lust for wild mustangs, trying to claim the horses eat, "their" grass--again, on our land. Horses and cattle do not consume grass in the same way.
This situation has always made me physically ill. I just don't understand the way these people think, other than to assume they just like to kill for the hell of it. Like murderers.
I'm going to be writing to the White House. I can't believe, Joe Biden being the animal lover, would let this stand.

I guess. its all fucking stupid and totally against nature and science... I mean what the flying fuck is in their brains, that they think this is a good thing? Obviously nothing... Not only are they selfish, they are heartless as well... well, I mean look at the Pandemic.. 500 thousand Americans killed by Covid and they don't fucking give a damn. Had they still been in charge, another 100 thousand would have been dead and more.

(12,591 posts)Hunters will soon be allowed to venture into national preserves in Alaska and engage in practices that conservation groups say are reprehensible: baiting hibernating bears from their dens with doughnuts to kill them and using artificial light such as headlamps to scurry into wolf dens to slaughter mothers and their pups.
With a final rule published Tuesday in the Federal Register, the Trump administration is ending a five-year-old ban on the practices, which also include shooting swimming caribou from a boat and targeting animals from airplanes and snowmobiles. It will take effect in 30 days.
State officials primarily composed of hunters in Alaska argued that the October 2015 regulations ordered by the Obama administration infringed on traditional native hunting practices and were more restrictive than what is permitted on state land.

Fat Donnie is as enamoured with killing wild animals as he is with killing people, whether it's by execution or pandemic.

Sing to the fallen eagle
Helicopters fly
Chase him 'round the mountains
Chase him 'til he dies
They say that it's good sportin'
Shootin' him on the wing
Above the roar and clatter
You can hear your rifle sing
His death song
It won't be long
Sing to the western rancher
The eagle takes his lamb
He's got a thousand others
He don't give a damn
Get up with the sunrise
Everybody gather 'round
Kill him with the first shot
He'll turn and bring you down
Down down
Crash on the ground
Sing to the noble eagle
Help is on the way
A government team of experts
Is a' rushin' to your aid
I know your not excited
An eagle is no waif
Fly on up to Canada
This country isn't safe
Anymore
That's for sure
