Greene calls Italian American House Democrat 'Rep. Mussolini'

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) called Rep. David Cicilline "Rep. Mussolini" after the Rhode Island Democrat proposed a rule change to block her from forcing motions to adjourn.

The comment came after Greene was asked by Newsweek about a proposed rule change from Cicilline that would only allow a member to make a motion to adjourn if they are a member of a committee.

The House voted to strip Greene of her committee assignments last month over her previous endorsement of conspiracy theories and violence against Democratic politicians, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

When Newsweek asked about Cicilline's proposal, Greene said, "Do you mean Rep. Mussolini?"

How is that Mussolini comment anything but ethnic derision? I speak as the great-granddaughter of Antonio Astorini, Italian immigrant, 1898.

She's impeding the work of the House for show.

30. My great-grandfather denounced Mussolini in 1922 while visiting his sisters in Italy.

He was wanted dead or alive by the Blackshirts. They chased him from Pistoia to the south, where he somehow was able to get himself smuggled in a ship to Algeria. Then he made his way up to Liverpool, I believe, and traveled back across the Atlantic.

Jews were persecuted under Mussolini as well, especially after 1938. But it's simply a fact that deportations of Italian Jews to Auschwitz and other camps only began (in earnest) after Mussolini was deposed. Italians were fairly uncooperative with Nazi policy on Jews.
