Siena poll: Just 35 percent of New York voters want Cuomo to resign

Source: Politico

By BILL MAHONEY 03/15/2021 11:11 AM EDT

ALBANY, N.Y. — Most New York voters are satisfied with Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s explanation of the sexual harassment allegations made against him and barely a third want him to resign, a Siena College Research Institute poll released Monday morning found.

The governor’s overall popularity has taken a hit over the past month, however. Only 43 percent of New Yorkers now view him favorably, while 45 percent view him unfavorably.

“Voters appear to be able to compartmentalize how they feel about Cuomo,” Siena spokesperson Steve Greenberg said in a statement. “While their views on him generally — favorability, job performance, re-elect — took a significant hit this month, voters’ views on Cuomo’s handling of the pandemic remain largely positive, except for his handling of nursing home death data.”

Cuomo’s numbers had already been gradually declining from the stratospheric highs they hit last spring. He’s now back around where he was before the pandemic; he polled at 44-50 favorable in a Siena poll in February 2020.

In a pretty red California, when he shouldn't have been recalled IMHO.

Even Dem friends were caught up in the Movie Star madness, about The Terminator being the governator. I told anyone who listened that this will come back to blow up in our faces here in California. A few friends tried to tell me that he's okay, and married to Maria Shriver 🙄

I don't have to tell folks here on this site and in California how badly Ahnold governed our state, turning it into a shambles by completely ruining our economy (He was a Republican, so it figures. They destroy economies, and Dems come back to fix them), and back then many in California, myself included, were aware of the strong rumors about the dalliances The Governator was having on top of getting his maid/housekeeper/Maria pregnant at the same time. People, including almost half of the GOP'ers who voted for him were so mad at him, that his ratings sunk lower than that of a used car salesman.

But Schumer once again going after one of our own.

NY voters should decide. However, since that’s not what guilty bystanders have to say. Like Schumer and Gillibrand who has a history of railroading.

At least it should be weighed into the decision. If his voters forgive him, and still want him, shouldn't they be the final arbiters? Democrats already have had an image problem with Independents, and small r Republicans, about choosing PC over popular in the past, but they are also masters at pissing off their own base as well when they take it too far. Sometimes we must pick politics over purity if we are to ever have a fighting chance against the odds stacked against us with a party that doesn't have to live by anywhere near the same standards.

Andrew Cuomo would.

“My personal opinion is that, given the damning pattern of facts and corroboration laid out in the article, I do not believe it is possible for Eric Schneiderman to continue to serve as Attorney General, and for the good of the office, he should resign.”

That's the earthquake difference. Trump has drastically changed what moral failings any politician should resign for. The poll shows that.

People including those progressives purity types that have banded together to get him out one way or another. People north of these little enclaves in NY City can see through this. It must be really inconvenient that they even had to dig back to his Cabinet days. There are groups that went after Biden and still keep stirring that pot. Same groups that remained silent with Sanders. The why now is the question that should be asked..... What's driving it a person desperate to get publicity again for an election? People either love him or hate him, but it seems the haters are really desperate to see him go. Lets wait for the report...what's the rush to judgement?

Those people who sit around massaging their bitterness when the neo-con clods are in charge. Then, when a Democrat gets elected, they freak out that the halo is crooked.

Take a generous portion of altruism, mix in a touch of anarchy with a dash of absolutism and you pretty much have the "pain in the ass" wing of the Democratic party. You gotta love 'em. They are, after all, loyal to ......their cause.

Realistic types need to learn to interpret their cries of "foul" as rantings from the void. The place where those infinite typewriters get banged on by those infinite monkeys making that perfect copy of Shakespeare's sonnets.

on this issue.

Franken was a mistake. I was on board with it at the time because I didn’t think he could withstand the mounting and seemingly never-ending number of charges, even though they were increasingly mundane. I was stupid and I have moved on.

So have most Democrats. But not the NY Democratic congressional delegation, the vast majority of whom, after some post-Franken-related hesitancy, have doubled down on the double standard, one exceptionally strict for Democrats, the other recklessly indulgent for Republicans.

The polling on Cuomo has been consistent. The vast majority of registered NY Dems think he should serve out his term and move on, should the existing investigation fail to reveal any more there there. They are way ahead of their representatives on this one.

Cuomo has popular support, Trump didn't. It's not that complicated. Time for Gellibrand and Schumer to remove their voices from the conversation.
