Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sues Biden administration demanding reinstatement of Keystone XL Pipeline permit

Shannon Najmabadi, The Texas Tribune
March 18, 2021

Twenty-one states, led by Texas and Montana, filed a lawsuit Wednesday against the Biden administration for revoking a permit for the long-disputed Keystone XL pipeline.

The complaint, filed in a Texas federal district court by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen, argues the president exceeded his authority when he canceled the pipeline's permit after being sworn in on Jan 20. The decision should rest with Congress, according to the lawsuit.

The project was supposed to move Canadian crude oil to the U.S. — and on to Texas Gulf Coast refineries. But it has been a flashpoint in fights over economic development, fossil fuels and environmentalism.

Biden said in an executive order revoking the permit that letting it remain was inconsistent with his administration's "economic and climate imperatives."

In jobs anyway, because the refineries and port is there where workers can load the oil onto tankers.

Texas should be leading the way in solar panel development.

Long term there will be about 50 permanent jobs at a couple of refineries including one in the plains states. So Texas is suing over a potential 30 jobs. Seems like all the money spent on this could have created more jobs by fixing bridges or more importantly in Texas, regulating and upgrading their electrical power grid.

By doing so, he wastes millions of our taxpayer dollars that are needed to fund public schools and improve our infrastructure. Republicans here don’t seem to care how much money the Texas state administration wastes so long as they can have a legislature that doesn’t regulate anything, leaving people to freeze to death in power outages or forcing them into the streets when they get evicted because of a job loss.

Yeah, the MAGATS must love Paxton wasting millions in pursuing frivolus lawsuits they end up paying for. Just think of all the good those millions (state employees + no doubt GOP private lawyers) could have done for the residents!

Keystone XL only was supposed to go through four states, and Texas isn’t one of them.
