The New York City prosecutor probing possible financial improprieties within former President Donald Trumps businesses has queried Cook County officials about property records involving the Trump International Hotel and Tower in Chicago.
Between September and November of last year, a representative from the Major Economic Crimes Bureau in the New York City District Attorneys office exchanged emails with the Cook County recorder to inquire about obtaining records associated with Trumps high-rise here, according to documents obtained exclusively by WBEZ.
The documents signal that Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr.s criminal investigation into Trumps taxes and potential financial wrongdoing within his businesses could run, at least in part, through Chicago.
A Vance spokesman declined to comment on the email exchange, which has not been previously reported.

New York City Special DA's Office announced they are looking into documents from East Kabumfick, Some Midwest State that could tie into 90 year old Donald Trumps financial records. "This could be the promising lead we've been looking for," said 75 year old investigator James Smith. However, the investigation took a downturn when it was learned most of those involved had already died of old age and the thermal paper that had Trump's records had faded and was too difficult to read. Said James Smith, "We need to take time to make sure all the evidence is together so we don't make a mistake and convict an innocent person. But we should have an announcement in a couple of weeks."
Reached at the Mar-a-Lago Old Folks Home for Retired Republican Politicians, when asked about this and his bid for another WH attempt, a nurse said, "Mr. Trump isn't available for comment as his prunes haven't kicked in yet but he has been running for 15 years."

Chicago Alderman Ed Burke (D), whose law firm formerly worked for the Trump Organization in the city, was charged with attempted extortion Thursday for reportedly attempting to use his city council position to solicit business to the firm.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported that Burke allegedly tried to persuade a fast-food company to become a client of his firm after the company sought Burke's support for a remodeling project in the city. Evidence against the 50-year veteran of the Chicago city council include wiretapped cell phone conversations, according to the newspaper.
His firm, Klafter and Burke, worked for President Trump for years in Chicago, where the firm performed property tax appeal work that the Sun-Times reported last year saved the Trump Organization more than $14 million in taxes over a decade

Because of delays caused by the pandemic as well as a massive amount of evidence to sort through, Ald. Ed Burke (14th Ward) is unlikely to stand trial on corruption charges in mid-2021, the federal judge overseeing the case told lawyers Wednesday.
U.S. District Court Judge Robert Dow said it would be premature to set a trial date for Burke and his co-defendants, longtime aide Peter Andrews and Portage Park businessman Charles Cui.
I'd like to give you all a trial date, but I'd like to give you one we think will stick, Dow said.
The longest serving Chicago alderman in history, Burke, 76, faces a 14-count indictment that alleges he repeatedly and brazenly used his powerful position at City Hall to force those doing business with the city to hire his private law firm.
