Parler: We warned the FBI more than 50 times before the Capitol riot
Source: Ars Technica
Parler "has acted to remove incitement and threats of violence from its platform and did so numerous times in the days before the unlawful rioting at the Capitol," the letter explains. It goes on:
As Parler grew substantially in the latter half of 2020, the company took the extraordinary initiative to develop formal lines of communication with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to facilitate proactive cooperation and referrals of violent threats and incitement to law enforcement. In fact, in the days and weeks leading up to January 6th, Parler referred violent content from its platform to the FBI for investigation over 50 times, and Parler even alerted law enforcement to specific threats of violence being planned at the Capitol.
"Today," Parler adds, it "continues to work closely with law enforcement, and the company has also implemented enhanced processes and procedures with the assistance of artificial intelligence, computerized filters, and manual reviews to better screen and remove incitement from the platform."

Parler execs could have stood in the middle of the National Mall and screamed through a bullhorn, and nothing would have happened as long as Chump was controlling everything.

(1,896 posts)1990 was when the setup was made that determined a basic direction of how internet traffic is administered. So we know that's there's no such thing as secret chats and hidden messages that don't flag. So the execs had a tough choice - go out in the cold, or get paid to sit here and watch all the crazies. My guess is they sat inside.

(10,049 posts)Its now the FBI investigating the FBI. I hope AG Garland unmasks the person or persons who did not react to information about a planned attack. And where was Director Wray? Barr could have installed any number of Trump loyalists, though I would think Wray might have prevented that. The warnings from one of the FBI field offices (Virginia?) seem also to have been ignored.

Sounds more like history revisionism to me.

(9,292 posts)"in the days before the unlawful rioting at the Capitol". THE NSA would be able to confirm or refute this.

(9,535 posts)While they may withhold some of redact, even heavily redacted documents would show in Parler is telling the truth -- and if so, serious questions need to be raised in a thorough investigation.
And if Parler lied and there are no responsive records, that would come out, too.

(7,917 posts)They constitute a reckless and dangerous component of mass hysteria. There is no 1st amendment protection for falsely yelling "fire!"
Shut them all down as a danger to public health. Mercer paid for Parler to house the maniacs and as a pipeline for RW propaganda rumors and lies. Murdoc and his imitators built FOX and the others to broadcast propaganda, not news. They said as much in their onw words: FOX is not a news source despite the name.

What authority or regulatory agency "licenses" FOX News, Newsmax, and OANN?
Take your time.

(7,917 posts)My point derives form the idea that when someone is a danger to the general public either through intoxication or poor judgement a judge might remove their driver's license so they may not, at least temporarily, engender more harm. Without reference to a specific act of regulation I proposed a similar restraint on their activities.
My intention is they should be forced off the air so to speak for the reasons I stated. I suppose the DOJ could pursue the line that they are distributing Russian propaganda.
Fox, Newsmax and OANN all operate in part under the FCC so I suppose there could be something done there. Parler most likely holds a license to do business in the US of some kind, or their ISP does. Appropriate investigations should be made. I propose that real evidence exists, not mere supposition, that Mercer intended to provide a medium for housing, growing and provoking the Q believers. Fox and the others spew propaganda 24-7 not merely interpretations but fabrications some of which have been sourced from Russia.
I am not interested in bogus arguments about free speech. They do not apply in this case. These are all institutions with a burden of public trust they have violated. The public should answer back IMO.

(7,917 posts)Several agencies including DIA received information and yet did nothing by all appearances. One proposed reason was that they were being told to stand down by some of the Neo-cons in charge at the time. I do not hold with the idea they were all incompetent institutions.
