Republicans seek DOJ briefing on claims of 'suspicious' pre-Jan. 6 Capitol tours

Republicans have grown increasingly frustrated that authorities have allowed the charges leveled by Democrats to linger without updates for nearly three months.

Republicans on a key House committee are pressing the Justice Department and Capitol Police to brief them on a review of Democratic allegations that some GOP lawmakers provided suspicious tours to possible rioters in the days before the Jan. 6 attack on Congress.
Rep. Rodney Davis of Illinois, the top Republican on the House Administration Committee, and other GOP members of the panel are asking officials in both agencies to provide a confidential briefing about the status of their review of those claims.
It is extremely important that there be repercussions for anyone found responsible in connection with these serious allegations, the lawmakers wrote to FBI Director Christopher Wray, Assistant U.S. Attorney Molly Gaston and acting Capitol Police Chief Yogananda Pittman. We hope to gain more insight into what has unfolded with any investigation thus far and continue to monitor its progress with a keen focus on a fair and unbiased process.
The GOP letter comes nearly three months after thousands of supporters of former President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol and sent lawmakers fleeing for safety, delaying the certification of the 2020 presidential election results. More than 100 police officers were injured, including one who died hours after the attack, and more than 300 participants in the attack have been arrested.

(43,196 posts)Afraid Democrats will trace it all the way to the top? Or you trying to get this out of the way ASAP for the midterms? Well I got news for you, Rodney. Bill Barr ain't AG anymore. Democrats are in control, and they're doing it right. If that's slow or inconvenient for you and your caucus, too bad.

(11,320 posts)(potentially explosive) story and I kind of agree that it's probably time for some (at least bare bones) answers. Either it happen, or it didn't. And it was either against congressional rules, or it wasn't. I can certainly understand 'ongoing investigation' -- but then accountability to the public and the legal process need not be mutually exclusive exercises. Time to shine a little light ....
