Corporate criticism of GOP-led voting bills spreads to Texas

Source: The Associated Press

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The ranks of big corporations now criticizing GOP efforts to restrict voting access spread Thursday to Texas as measures that would reduce options to cast ballots and limit polling hours advanced in the state Capitol.

American Airlines, which is based in Fort Worth, came out against restrictive voting measures that have a favorable path to reaching Republican Gov. Greg Abbott’s desk in the coming weeks.

Public opposition from the airline came after a package of sweeping elections changes cleared the GOP-controlled Senate and, notably, a day after some of Georgia’s most prominent corporate leaders came out publicly against a new election law after civil rights activists criticized their silence.

“To make American’s stance clear: We are strongly opposed to this bill and others like it,” the airline said in a statement.

was a 1969 book by James Weinstein. Not widely regarded, it traces social and political change from the roots of the Progressive Era to the Red Scare of the 1920s. Absolutely fascinating book. It reveals the extent and methods by which business interests couched in organizations such as the National Civic Federation and the good government allies got out ahead of and co-opted in later years the more radical elements of nascent socialism. In the early 1900s you have strikes, radicalizing of workers, and child labor, but by the 1920s you have some companies forming modest pensions and health care onsite for workers' well being.

I tell you this because it will become apparent as time moves along, that corporations' interests are in happy workers who have a vested interest in their jobs and their country, and they want their employers to support that. These radical right politicians that want to strip people of their pay, benefits, health care, and democracy will not win in the long run.

Just long enough to create the autocracy for which they yearn. After that winning isn't a concern b/c: game over.

They happily voted against the polls of their own party members to guarantee permanent monolithic GOP power from local county politics to the State Legislature, Congress, and the White House. They were recruited to the offices they hold because they would do exactly this.

yet like to portray themselves as morally superior
because of wealth and white supremacy.

Really all they want to do is control wealth, power,
and workers... while aiming their hate at those
who are socially beneath them in wealth and
influence.

...and are sure to reap hundreds of millions in new revenues, Texas plots how to restrict Democrats from voting and how to criminalize abortion.

Burning mad.

When i agree with them. Eventually, I won't agree with some positions. Then what? I'll have to Google every product or company I may interact with. And God forbid Coca-Cola ever takes a conservative position! I cannot live without my Diet Coke!
