In secret Facebook groups, America's best warriors share racist jabs, lies about 2020, even QAnon theories

NBC News reviewed posts from four private, secret Facebook groups that describe themselves as solely for current and former special operations forces.

WASHINGTON — They're the most elite, lethally trained members of the U.S. military, widely considered the best of the best. And yet in secret Facebook groups exclusively for special operations forces that were accessed by NBC News, they share misinformation about a "stolen" 2020 election, disparaging and racist comments about America's political leadership and even QAnon conspiracy theories.

Among the hundreds of Facebook posts NBC News reviewed from forums for current and former Rangers, Green Berets and other elite warriors: a member of a special forces group lamenting that several aides to former Vice President Mike Pence were part of a "Concerted effort by the thieves and pedophiles walking the hallowed halls of the peoples government" to undermine former President Donald Trump.

"In a just world, they would have already been taken out behind the court house and shot," another member commented.

"The story of radicalization in special operations is a story that needs to be told," said Jack Murphy, a former Army Ranger and Green Beret who has written extensively about the special operations forces community. "It has shocked and horrified me to see what's happened to these guys in the last five or six years."

if most of these "warriors" were already steeped in right-wing group-thought before they received their deadly training, or if they became radicalized while in the Armed Forces?

5. Old Adage About Never Saying Anything

you wouldn't want you mother to hear or read. Wonder if any of these folks would have acted differently if they knew there was an audience.

Folks in the armed services should know that they are expected to hold the highest ideals and meet much higher standards of conduct than regular civilians. Seems some of these folks think their service entitles them to special privileges.

6. I have a HS friend who was an Army Airborne Ranger.

He moved to Texas from LA in 1981 and was already a Ronald Reagan fan as the governor of California. He was not radical though back then.

During his years in the Rangers he parachuted into Nicaragua at night when the U.S. was involved in the Contra/Sandinista battles despite being “Advisors” only. Tales of survival training in Death Valley among other things let me know he experienced extreme situations/conditions.

Since he has been out of the service he has stayed in touch with all of the members of his group as they went through Hell and back together. With the advent of social media I found my friend to be very far right. I gave up debating him years ago as there was no point. I see the toxic stew that is his feed and I am appalled that such a good man and father could have been morphed into this misguided, hate filled individual. He was brainwashed in the Service and I doubt he will ever come to realize the truth. To my friend and his fellow former soldiers politics is a team sport where their side is always right no matter what.

I believe him to be a victim of the military that forged him!
