Sotomayor blasts Kavanaugh's decision on juvenile life sentences

Source: the hill

By John Kruzel - 04/22/21 03:36 PM EDT

Justice Sonia Sotomayor in a blistering dissent Thursday hammered a 6-3 decision penned by Justice Brett Kavanaugh that rejected certain limits on juvenile life sentences.

Joined by her two fellow liberal justices, Sotomayor accused the conservative majority of abandoning past rulings while pretending to respect them — and even used one of Kavanaugh’s previous opinions against him as a cudgel.

“Such an abrupt break from precedent demands ‘special justification,’ ” Sotomayor wrote, quoting a decision Kavanaugh wrote last term, adding: “The Court offers none.”

Ruling along ideological lines, the court on Thursday rejected a challenge to life sentences without parole issued to juveniles, affirming a Mississippi court's sentence of Brett Jones, who at age 15 murdered his grandfather.

The electorate handed power to Dems. If it isn't used, the republic will be lost in another year.

Who cry babied up at his hearing about how what he did as a teenager shouldn't be held against him.

Let that sink in.

He's a smug evil piece of shit.

It is a damn good thing for him that his own attitude was not applied to his teenaged self. But of course, daddy was there to get him out of trouble. And, he is white. What is the percentage of offenders who are not white currently incarcerated? What about not rich? Personally, I would love to see some figures on the comparative wealth of the families of offenders. Because I am betting that the vast majority of them are below a certain income level. Mainly because they could not buy their way out of jail. Pay for Play justice... what a great idea!

repeatedly. They can make any argument against him appear super hyper technical, while he can say he's just ruling on the facts of the cases brought before him.

Waste of time IMO.
