Cuomo: Most NY, NJ Capacity Restrictions to End Starting May 19; Social Distancing (Mostly) Stays

Source: WNBC

Most pandemic-related capacity restrictions in New York and New Jersey will be lifted beginning May 19, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Monday. The plan employs the same regionally coordinated spirit the two neighboring governors deployed when they first shut down their states more than 13 months ago.

Some businesses may opt to keep capacity restrictions in place, Cuomo noted, but from the statewide perspective, they will be essentially gone in barely more than two weeks. That means no executive-ordered limits to how many people can be in retail and food services establishments, gyms, amusement and family entertainment businesses, hair salons, barbershops, offices and more at one time.

Broadway effectively would be able to open that day, though it takes time to develop show schedules and sell tickets, Cuomo acknowledged. The state is in ongoing talks with the Broadway League to hammer out the next steps.

The only capacity limit that will remain in place across the tri-state area as of May 19 is one for large outdoor stadiums. Capacity for those will go to 33% in New York on that day, while Cuomo said New York, New Jersey and Connecticut are working to coordinate joint COVID protocol for those big arena spaces going forward.

They're acting like it isn't there anymore. I think that is a mistake.

I'm trying hard not to require everyone on the planet to think as I do. It's just that, why are there so many stupid people all of a sudden? They can't take the pressure, I suppose, but I think they are counting on getting lucky, when luck should not be an option.

We cannot have these restrictions and keep the businesses running. There will be no more relief payments coming from the government.

We have to get back to normal.

I'm not a Republican, anti-vaxxer. You cannot keep things shut down forever.

I don't get it. Some must only read the doom and gloom articles.

... nobody here, anyway.

I don't get it.
I do. Things aren't nearly as rosy as everyone WISHES they were. There's nothing wrong with being cautious, is there?

Some must only read the doom and gloom articles.
That's not entirely true either. It's not binary, it's not black-and-white.

Just two days ago someone said to get used to wearing masks and social distancing forever. There is definitely a contingent here who prefers this type of living of masking up and never being around crowds.

Yavin4 is a long time DUer who is clearly a progressive.

Your post is offensive, to say the least.
