Malian woman gives birth to nine babies
Source: BBC
A 25-year-old Malian woman has given birth to nine babies - two more than doctors had detected during scans.
Halima Cisse gave birth to the nonuplets in Morocco. Mali's government flew her there for specialist care.
"I'm very happy," her husband told the BBC. "My wife and the babies [five girls and four boys] are doing well."
A woman who had eight babies in the US in 2009 holds the Guinness World Record for the most children delivered at a single birth to survive.

(35,454 posts)The article strongly suggests that she had help in developing this many babies. The world is over populated as it is and many parents can't take proper care of their children due to financial struggles. Between she and the woman who previously held the record, they have brought 17 children into the world.

So if she had been on some version of "the pill", she may have been prescribed some hormone medication that in her case, triggered a multiple egg release and they were all there at "the right time".

Mali's population has doubled since then. And this is not only one of the world's poorest countries, it's also one of the ones with the fastest desertification.
For their own good, they need concerted birth control measures.
we can do it

(21,639 posts)Global birth rates have fallen by half since birth control measures became widely adopted in the 3rd world 50 years ago. Where would they be today had they not made that wise decision back then!
They've also fallen by over a third in the developed world.
And still most nations struggle to provide for their young people - nowhere more so than in Africa, where already sky-high birth rates fell the least (by one fourth or so).
For their own good, young people should think twice about having any more than two children - especially in developing countries.

(51,571 posts)The doctor who orchestrated this monstrosity should have his or her license pulled. This is ridiculously dangerous for the woman, and the babies. And even if they survive, the babies' and parents' quality of life will be needlessly strained, at best. She sure as hell can't breastfeed 9 babies. There is absolutely no reason for this.

(51,571 posts)Once you've had the kids, it is pretty fucking cruel to the kids to say you wish you didn't have them. The kids didn't ask to be born. Once born, they want and need to be loved. And a parent owes a duty to love and care for them. To say to those kids and the world that you don't want them is pretty devastating to the kids.
I can't imagine what else this father could say to the reporters but that he was happy. At least his wife and kids were alive, for now.
