Liz Cheney strikes defiant tone in floor speech on eve of her expected ousting from House GOP leader

(CNN)Rep. Liz Cheney vowed Tuesday evening not to remain silent as former President Donald Trump continues to spread lies that the election was stolen from him, striking a defiant tone ahead of an expected vote to remove her from House Republican leadership on Wednesday.

The Wyoming Republican struck a defiant tone on Tuesday evening ahead of the vote, which is all but assured to end in her removal as GOP conference chair after her continued criticisms of Trump. She declared that she would not join with other leaders who ignore Trump's lies, emboldening him and threatening democracy.

"We must speak the truth. Our election was not stolen. And America has not failed," Cheney said.

"Every one of us who has sworn the oath must act to prevent the unraveling of our democracy. This is not about policy. This is not about partisanship. This is about our duty as Americans. Remaining silent and ignoring the lie emboldens the liar," Cheney said. "I will not sit back and watch in silence while others lead our party down a path that abandons the rule of law and joins the former President's crusade to undermine our democracy."

And she was speaking to the public who also is disgusted with Trump and the GOP's obstructionism and downright craziness. I think what she is gambling on is getting support from the backers of Repubs who want to save the party from Trumpism. Who knows, if they dump her, there just might be a counter punch and the "sane" wing of the GOP may rise up behind her.
If not, then for sure, dumping her will divide the GOP, and the nuts will commence to fighting among themselves with purity tests.

Look at who her dad is. You don't think he isn't worried about Trump destroying the party? You don't think he doesn't see in his daughter a chance to mobilize the old guard Trump and his supporters? I have taken careful note of the silence of the old guard since Trump took office. They were not happy when he got nominated and I am sure they have been looking for a way to destroy him and his supporters. I am sure they thought that once Trump was out of office, things would return to "normal" but no. Trump simply stoked the fires of the wing nuts and regained power over the GOP. BUt that didn't happen, much to their chagrin and dismay. And what do you know, along comes this situation which gives them the perfect opportunity to make Liz the modern face of the old guard, so why not throw their weight behind her?

Why not ally yourself to the winning team? She may or may nor be aware of it, but she could lead a GOP revolt by espousing the values of the old pre Reagan GOP. She knows the more supporters she can get, the better chance she has of ousting the Trump nuts.

What is she decides to start voting with the Democrats? What if she decides to monkey wrench the GOP efforts to stop Biden? It would be stupid to reject her, in that case. What if she goes to the public and says what she is saying, that Trumpism has wrecked America and she is on the side of rebuilding America? What if she stands up and says "Party or not, I am for America, and if we don't all work together, we shall surely go under"? Think of what carnage that would make within the GOP.

Face it, though - the GOP right now is stupid. They will oust her, not even thinking of what she could do in retaliation.
