Prosecutors have charged seven people after the mummified body of the leader of a spiritual group called Love Has Won was found decorated with Christmas lights and glitter in what appeared to be a shrine in a southern Colorado home.
Amy Carlson, 45, who was known as Mother God by her followers, was found dead in a home in the tiny, rural town of Moffat on 28 April, according to arrest affidavits. Each of the defendants is facing charges related to tampering with or abusing a corpse as well as child abuse.
A coroners office has not said how or when Carlson died.
One of Carlsons followers, who has not been charged, told investigators that he took in the group because they needed a place to stay, and he found the body in a back bedroom when he returned home from a trip to Denver. He called police and said he believed the group had brought Carlsons body to his home from California.
The mummified remains appeared to be set up in some type of shrine and have what appears to be glitter type makeup on around the eyes, according to the affidavits. Investigators searched an SUV on the property and said the backseat was laid down in a position consistent with someone transporting the mummified remains.

(14,750 posts)What's the big deal here? Who doesn't have the occasional mumified remains of a cult leader in their home? It's good luck, and great fun at parties, especially if it was a Q cult leader.
Don't millions of people have a depiction of a cult leader nailed to a cross in their homes? So what if this was an actual cult leader, and not just a plastic replica?
Really, people need to relax and smell the despots a little.

(160,540 posts)What Is The Love Has Won Cult, Whose Founder Amy Carlson May Have Been Mummified By Followers After Her Death?
By Raetta Holdman May 11, 2021 at 7:16 am
CRESTONE, Colo. (CBS4) A promise of awakening, peace, love and unity. Thats what former followers of the cult Love Has Won say lured them into the orbit of Amy Carlson, who called herself Mother God. But they say they found a different reality when they met Carlson.
Deputies in Saguache County found her mummified body in a home in Crestone after a call from the father of a 2-year-old who said his son was being held in the home.
Former member Andrew Profaci told CBS4s Dominic Garcia he was drawn to the group when he was on a path of awakening and found what he called the team on one of their chat rooms. When he arrived, Profaci said Carlson told him he would be Father God to her Mother God. He eventually left saying the group saying his growth was taking him in another direction, but said Love Has Won has grown militant and he would call it a cult.
Love Has Won did a daily series of video posts touting the power of Carlson in her role as Mother God. Carlson told her followers she could perform spiritual surgeries, even repair brains, according to her appearance on Dr. Phil.

Last week, a distressed man walked into a police station in rural southern Colorado, alerting officers to a corpse inside his home. There, they came upon a disturbing, unreal scene: Situated in what appeared to be some type of shrine, investigators discovered a decomposing body, mummified and wrapped in a sleeping bag and Christmas lights, with glitter makeup encircling the corpses seemingly empty eye sockets. The man who notified authorities identified himself as a follower of Love Has Won which claims to be a spiritual organization, but is more often described as a cult and the body, he continued, belonged to Love Has Wons leader: a woman named Amy Carlson, known within the group as Mother God.
The bodys discovery and the preceding events are bizarre, almost unbelievably so. While an official cause of death has not yet been announced, many Love Has Won followers appear to be commemorating Carlsons death as a great ascension, and seven followers have been charged with abuse of a corpse. Heres what we know about the case.
Amy Carlson founded Love Has Won.
While the groups beginnings are predictably murky, it appears Carlson started Love Has Won about 15 years ago according to her children, who say she abandoned them in the process. Heavily influenced by New Age, the group billed itself as a spiritual organization, offering spiritual intuitive ascension sessions and products including colloidal silver and medicinal supplements. However, law enforcement and those intimately familiar with the group have never hesitated to characterize it as a cult.
At the head of the organization was Carlson, known to followers as Mother God, who was revered as an almighty figure: She told her followers that she could communicate with angels, was capable of curing ailments like cancer, and would help guide chosen ones toward a great awakening or a new dimension. On the groups now-defunct website, Carlson claimed to be in her 534th reincarnation in my quest to recover my beloved Planet, and that her past lives included Jesus Christ and Marilyn Monroe.

(111,261 posts)She was badly decomposed enough that they couldn't pull fingerprints. My best guess says too much colloidal silver, yeah, that bunch were into that.
And no, I'm afraid I'm all out of fucks to give about charismatic sociopaths who start cults and hurt people. So sue me.

(160,540 posts)and they actually have photos of what you described! Wow. They have it under glass.
They should have used ripply glass, or darkened glass, for cryin' out loud! Whoa!
What's that all about?
I'll bet sadistic parents have used it to aid in threats to children: "If you do that again, I'll put you in there with St John Neumann!"
Thanks for that interesting item.

I finally called the church and complained, not that it did any good. It was like they were hoping to have an accident and get to their 'heavenly reward' sooner.
