Iran denies report of plans for nuclear talks with U.S.

Source: Rueters

(Reuters) - Iran denied on Sunday a report in a U.S. newspaper that it had plans for direct talks with the United States over its disputed nuclear program.

The New York Times reported, citing Obama administration officials, that the United States and Iran had agreed in principle to one-on-one negotiations on Iran's nuclear program, though the White House quickly denied the report.

"We don't have any discussions or negotiations with America," Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said in a news conference on Sunday. "The (nuclear) talks are ongoing with the P5+1 group of nations. Other than that, we have no discussions with the United States."

It's only in the GOP universe that talking to other nations is an automatic sign of weakness. Lars77 Oct 2012 #3

This smells of another GOP tactic of trying to keep President Obama from success.

GOP floats the meme, then Pres. Obama's admin has to come out and say, "No, we aren't having 1-on-1 talks" which can then be turned into a talking point.

I'm on the last week of a 4 week vacation and my comprehension skills have gotten a little rusty. You have a good Sunday and I hope my Cardinals take it all tonight against the SF Giants.

That leaked this story? And did the NYT go with a single sourced story? Was this a setup for Lindsey Graham to bash Obama's foreign policy based on a rumor?

When this was first reported it sounded off center and convenient, leaving Romney open to charge Obama with appeasment once again. This is not the kind of October surprise that would help Obama so I was doubtful from the beginning. After all, Judith Miller worked for the NYT when she was a mouthpiece for Dick Cheney.
