GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip A Palestinian official says an initial assessment shows at least 2,000 housing units were destroyed in the fighting between Israel and Palestinian militant groups in Gaza.
Naji Sarhan, deputy of Gazas works and housing ministry, tells The Associated Press on Saturday that more than 15,000 other units were partly destroyed in the 11-day war.
Israel launched hundreds of airstrikes on the overcrowded strip, targeting residential, commercial and government buildings. It said it was going after locations where Hamas had offices and resources.
Sarhan says four mosques were destroyed along with dozens of police offices in Gaza. He says most of the factories in Gazas industrial zone were destroyed or damaged.

(9,993 posts)I suspect some young people join Hamas because they have nothing else to do. This is apartheid, and I hope the rest of the world is ready to do something about it. Those in the West Bank are better off economically, as their unemployment rate is around 17%.
I hope saner heads prevail and someone is able to create a plan that allows Palestinians and Israelis to live in peace. Netanyahu is not that person, and its counterproductive for Israelis to keep him in office.

(216 posts)... so I guess this is the outcome they wanted.
Neither Israel nor the Palestinians are being well-served by their leadership.
And no, no one else really cares enough to do anything. Not the global audience, and not the Arab world who not only did nothing but pushed forward with some of their agreements with Israel while this was going on.
