Fox News and CNN Decline to Air Donald Trump's First Official Speech in Three Months
Source: Newsweek
Fox News and CNN did not air former President Donald Trump's address at the North Carolina GOP State Convention on Saturday night. MSNBC did broadcast segments of Trump's address, reportedly with correspondent Ali Vitali speaking over the ex-presidents remarks.
As Trump began his speech at the Greenville Convention Center, several social media users noted that Fox News was not broadcasting his first official speech since the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in February.
CNN host Brian Stelter tweeted, "Fox News is NOT airing Trump's first speech in months. Fox is sticking with a pre-taped 'Watters World' instead. Newsmax and One America News are showing Trump live, as expected."
"Fox News thus far hasn't carried any portion of former Pres. Trump's speech live," tweeted Atlantic White House reporter Peter Nicholas.

I am confused as to why fox news didn't air it. I'm surprised CNN didn't put it on for ratings.

(8,074 posts)Far more likely is that they're worried about the billion dollar plus lawsuits, some already filed, possibly others on the way.
Airing Trump's lies would either obligate them to fact check (particularly if he mentions people or companies by name) or leave them vulnerable to more litigation.
Since they don't want to be in the position of having to contradict their Chosen One, they prefer not to air the rant live. Their attorneys will vet the tape, and then they'll air portions that don't expose the network for future liability.
Just my two cents.
Fox didn't want to show their gawd with his pants on backwards.

(11,276 posts)Cable is learning maybe? Fox will probably loop the speech all day. Our News paper hardly covered it.

(10,205 posts)FOX probably thought airing Trump's speech would hurt more than help his cause. Either that, or they just want to move on.
Of course, in the next day or so Trump will say "ratings on FOX News were through the roof for my speech. Strong men were coming up to me, tears in their eyes, saying 'Sir, it was one of your best speeches ever. You were absolutely incredible. No one's ever seen anything like it!'"

(6,918 posts)Sponsors. Or lack of them. TV networks are advertisement peddlers. in 2021, fewer corporations and entities want to pay money to run images of their product next to an insurrection leader and dumb-as-a-post speaker. Its bad TV and no company in their right mind wants to pay money for others to see how stupid he is.
Before, they did it because they thought deplorables were a good pool of customers. Now they find out deplorables arent the kind of people a company wants to be associated with.
So why no Fox? Its business, plus they dont want to risk being sued again.

(18,636 posts)This isn't a campaign speech, nor is it about policy. It's shameless self promotion and to get such a vanity speech on TV, one needs outside sponsors to foot the bill.
Those other networks are just playing the part of a news program.

(146,317 posts)They may have decided, at the corporate level, that Trump is finished politically as a potential candidate for anything. That would explain their refusal to air his speech. We may see that network slowly shift coverage to other potential Presidential candidates in the future, looking for one who gets traction from what is left of their viewing audience.
Fox News is a commercial enterprise that depends on viewership to generate advertising revenue. I suspect they are looking for a new face to champion to their right-wing audience. Could be DeSantis. Watch and see what they do, if you can stomach the network at all.
