Beto O'Rourke, Jaime Harrison encourage Manchin voting rights compromise
Source: Politco
Former Texas congressman-turned-voting rights advocate Beto ORourke and Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison on Friday backed Sen. Joe Manchins (D-W.Va.) proposed compromise on voting rights, though O'Rourke clarified his remarks Sunday.
ORourke, who founded Powered by People, an organization registering voters in Texas, called Manchins proposal progress in an interview on CNN on Friday but also called on Texans to rally with him Sunday to push to get voting rights legislation approved.
...snip...
Harrison called Manchin's proposal a "step forward" for voting rights in an interview of his own on MSNBC Friday.
You have to see the progress, Harrison said. Many of us thought he was a no, not only a no, but a hell, no, but it seems like he has softened his stance and he is willing to work to find some common ground to move forward.

(10,085 posts)1. They also need to do something about the voter nullification laws.
The voter restrictions are horrible, but the right to overturn an election based on partisan claims of fraud is far more serious.

To try and claim more political ground. Not sure which it is, but this just smacks of a power play. Hold out until things are intractable, then rise up with a solution that everyone will be more agreeable with because of the impasse. Tough to say which one is happening here. I hope it is just him trying to be more productive than destructive, but these are all politicians... they can mess up a sunny day.

He wasted everyone's time, again. Without filibuster reform, nothing matters at this point.
