The Bexar County Sheriff's Office of Texas has fired Lieutenant Roxanne Mathai after she made Facebook posts touting her participation in the January 6 Capitol insurrection. She has not been criminally charged.
"......And we are going in......in the crowd at the stairs...not inside the capitol like the others," Mathai wrote in one of her posts. She included a selfie of her wearing a red, white and blue mask and draped in a flag declaring support for President Donald Trump.
"THIS IS TRUMP NATION" another photo post of hers declared, alongside red, white and blue hearts. "Not gonna lie.....aside from my kids, this was, indeed, the best day of my life. And it's not over yet," she wrote in a third post along with more photos of the rioters.
A 35-second video obtained by KSAT showed Mathai walking towards the Capitol steps and declaring, "We're going in, tear gas and all. Tear gas don't bother me."

(3,395 posts)To not even take a moment to think about her kids to decide that, maybe this is not a great idea, maybe I will stay home instead of risking jail and not being able to see my kids everyday for a few years, maybe I will loose my job, maybe by the time I am out of jail my husband will have found a new wife...
It doesn't take a genius to figure things out before committing to criminal actions. but as I have said in the past, MAGA people, trump, and republicans have no concept of consequences, they act by impulse.

(47,482 posts)on social media committing a crime? The absolute stupidity of that alone should be reason enough to fire her. These people aren't just traitors and criminals, they are dumb enough to advertise their misdeeds, as if they are acts of great valor. That police department might need to rethink their hiring and screening process.

how about participated in the attempted overthrow of the American government? that's what she did.
FUCK.
propaganda is very, very powerful.
I shake my head and mentally substitute the appropriate words, but the softer, phony version is winning out.

(28,798 posts)but usually i stew. I've taken a break of sorts from tv news especially, but still hang out at DU constantly.
just the way they insidiously change a word here and there does immeasurable damage. best example i can think of is that anti-abortionists have appropriated the term "pro-life." I call it out every time I see it now, because it's not true. they don't give a fuck about the baby or the mother, just the fetus. they're probably fervently pro-death penalty. they're just either deluded by religion or haters of women.
so now it's not an insurrection, it's a "riot." or just another tourist trip if you ask ron johnson. and now the insurrectionists are "attendees." insidious, and dangerous. also, lies.

(14,019 posts)I'm ten years into my tv break, but I watch a clip on DU occasionally. I plan on never going back.
I hope that as the more fervid insurrectionists are tried the words used at sentencing of the guilty will be carefully chosen for accuracy.
You're right on with "insidious."

(1,123 posts)Any active/retired public safety or military member who participated in the insurrection (whether they were inside or outside the capital) should be criminally charged with felonies. Not to diminish the acts of other insurrectionist scum, but the seditious actions by groups who swore an oath to defend the Constitution and rule of law are the most deplorable.
