New York Suspends Giuliani's Law License
Source: New York Times
A New York appellate court suspended Rudolph W. Giulianis law license on Thursday after a disciplinary panel found that he made demonstrably false and misleading statements about the 2020 election as Donald J. Trumps personal attorney. The court wrote in a 33-page decision that Mr. Giulianis conduct threatened the public interest and warrants interim suspension from the practice of law.
Mr. Giuliani helped lead Mr. Trumps legal challenge to the election results, arguing without merit that the vote had been rife with fraud and that voting machines had been rigged. We conclude that there is uncontroverted evidence that respondent communicated demonstrably false and misleading statements to courts, lawmakers and the public at large in his capacity as lawyer for former President Donald J. Trump and the Trump campaign in connection with Trumps failed effort at reelection in 2020, the decision read.
A lawyer for Mr. Giuliani could not be immediately reached for comment. Mr. Giuliani, who was admitted to the state bar in New York in 1969, once had a prominent legal career. He worked in the Justice Department during the Reagan administration, and was named the United States Attorney in Manhattan in 1983.
He was mayor of New York City for eight years, rising to national prominence as he steered the city through the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

(16,412 posts)The charges are serious, the evidence against him is very strong and his "defense" (if you can even call it that) was as flimsy as a piece of toilet paper.

(50,559 posts)They suspended his license, which is done to instantly shut down his practice while the disbarment is going through. I believe they will disbar him, but they must hold hearings to do that.
I also believe Sidney Powell and Lin Wood will meet the same fate.

(5,899 posts)But we'll see. I'm not a lawyer, and I'm not from New York, so we'll see what the panel does.

(1,990 posts)The RW idiots are not going to be able to ignore this. When all these dolts have their licenses suspended pending disbarment, the RW is going to have to accept that they got played by con men.

And, obviously, he is far below being humiliated by any mere Bar or societal approbation.

(3,256 posts)His whole life has been playing Uriah Heep to whoever could help get ahead. It started with an appointment under Gerald Ford, which he left the Democratic Party for. It led to getting the prize of US Attorney for the southern District of New York. He did the same thing there that he always did. He took the credit for the work of the staff. He learned how to play the media with his famous "perp walk". This was done even with those who later had the charges dropped. It's like the SDNY had never prosecuted a mobster before he got there. His former employer despised him for his grandstanding and over charging. His term as mayor was another charade. claiming that his policing policies were responsible for the crime rate decreasing, but the decline was about the same in most large cities. Then comes 9/11 and he suddenly becomes "Americas Mayor". No mention that the emergency communications center was located in the WTC at his behest instead of the preferred very secure location across the river because it was closer to his mistress. He was also AWOL for a while after the disaster, which might be a good thing. I think a lot of people could see through him, but to the media he was great in that he would kiss their ass too.
