CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – Former U.S. Senate Candidate Paula Jean Swearengin has announced she is leaving the Democratic Party.

Swearengin said the reason behind her decision is she believes both the state and national levels of the party allegedly ignored issues such as racism and children suffering across Appalachia.

“Our system is broken. We can’t rebuild a two-party system with division & hate,” Swearengin said in a tweet.

According to her website, Swearengin is a native of Mullens, West Virginia, who grew up in a coal-mining family.

She ran against Manchin in 2018, but he cleaned her clock by over a 2-1 margin. She was the Democratic nominee for the US Senate in 2020. She only got 27% of the vote in the general election.

It sounds like she is a real Democratic but she is running into resistance in deep red West Virginia which only supports democrats who are not really Democrats but Republicans in sheeps clothing. Too bad for her. She sounds like she has real compassion and is someone who should have been supported.

She's no Democrat.

She ran against Manchin in the Democratic primary in 2018. She lost with 30.14% of the vote. She was NOT the Democratic nominee in 2018, Manchin was. He ran against Republican Patrick Morrisey in the general election. Paula Jean Swearengin was not in the general election.

Brand New Congress. It's too bad she's frustrated and leaving the Democratic Party instead of working within the party, but it's hard when those organizations build unrealistic expectations and anger among their supporters and then let them fail.

Justice comes slower than any of us would like, especially in deep red states. Apparently, she wasn't willing to play the long game.

If she feels that strongly why does she not join the other side. I am sure they will welcome her with open arms and wonderful ideas to combat racism and help suffering children.
