Men accused of Whitmer kidnapping plot say FBI set them up: report
Source: The Hill
BY LEXI LONAS - 07/20/21 12:59 PM EDT
The men who are accused of attempting to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) are saying the FBI set them up, according to court filings, evidence and dozen of interviews seen by BuzzFeed News.
There were at least 12 FBI informants involved in the investigation into the group for months while they were allegedly planning to kidnap the governor.
The FBIs involvement was much bigger than previously known as the agency was involved when the plot began and had informants allegedly encouraging the group to further its plans, BuzzFeed News reported.
An Iraq War veteran informant rose to second in command of the group and paid for travel for members of the kidnapping plot to meet together. He also told members to work together and helped the person in charge advance the plan.

I for one am glad the FBI infiltrated their group. That's how we stop domestic terrorists.
And I hope the FBI, DHS and other intel agencies are actively infiltrating right wing, domestic terrorist groups right now who are planning another insurrection of the Capitol in August to reinstall the orange turd because they believe his big lie.
Don't you agree?

(43,276 posts)Harrison A. Williams. Entrapment is settled law. Stings are not illegal, in fact they are actively encouraged. It doesn't even seem to matter if the opportunity to commit the crime didn't exist outside the sting. So don't let the right wing media drum up sympathy for these miscreants. They were going to kidnap the Governor and do her bodily harm, allegedly.

Yep, just another group of wingnuts attempting to dodge accountability.
The defendant's case will not hold up.

Like children, they try to blame someone else by pointing and saying, "It wasn't me."
Plainly, this was a group of murderers infiltrated by the FBI. The FBI was successful in stopping an assassination. That's what happened.
There are details that the right and its enablers will use to bend the narrative to one of victimhood. Don't allow them to get away with it. I'm already seeing people on this thread fretting about the gathering of intelligence instead of the horror that would have resulted had the would-be assassins been successful in murdering Whitmer.
