Costco, Kroger, Target, Walmart and Apple change mask policies, as CDC warns about rise in delta var
Source: Market Watch
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reversed course on its masking guidance last week and the move has important implications for retailers and other businesses. Some restaurants, for example, are already telling customers, as the delta variant spreads, No vax, no service.
The CDC now recommends that people, regardless of vaccination status, wear a mask indoors in areas where theres substantial and high transmission of COVID-19, as well as in K-12 schools. In May, the agency relaxed face mask guidance, saying it was no longer necessary for fully vaccinated individuals to wear one indoors.
Ultimately, state and local governments dont have to adopt the CDCs recommendations.
On Monday, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio recommended that the citys 8 million residents wear a mask indoors, regardless of vaccination status.

(15,090 posts)The people who wont get vaccinated will also ignore suggestions. If they want to not get vaccinated, they have to accept that we dont want their germy bare faces near us.

(14,061 posts)My son took a shit-ton of verbal abuse last year for requesting that customers at his store follow policy on masks. This was just after things reopened with reduced hours and COVID was still bad.
Management, predictably, did nothing to back him up.

(11,636 posts)A mask mandate that isn't enforced is useless. I'm tired of this country being held hostage to the crazy and stupid.

(6,797 posts)If you're vaccinated you don't have to wear a mask. Non vaccinated must wear a mask. How the hell do they know who's vaccinated? My county is only 35% vaccinated and its mostly older people. I still wear my mask even though I had my shots.

But our vaccination rate here is only 46%. It just moved up from 43%.

Also, becoming a star member will get rid of the ads.

(14,061 posts)The aisles at one store where I shop are so narrow that its hard to pass comfortably. Gets crowded fast, especially if people stand around mentally debating the advantages of Skippy over Jif.

(5,813 posts)He noticed that every employee was masked as well as the majority of the shoppers. We always wear masks to shop regardless of what anyone else does. We will continue to wear masks although were fully vaccinated. We live in an under vaccinated area of NW FL so even if the vaccine gives us a very good chance of avoiding severe Covid and hospitalization and/or death, we want to keep our risk as low as we can. It is a minor inconvenience to wear a mask.

Publix just went back to making their employees wear them. Fresh Market never stopped.

(57,236 posts)... of this country just don't give a poop if I live or die and aren't bothered by their possible direct contribution to killing others. I had a lot of trouble hearing that there were people begging for vaxxing as they were being intubated. I wondered how many they killed. If they weren't vaxxed, there's no way they were wearing masks, or keeping safe distances.

(25,555 posts)WTF??
Of course no one is gonna wear them...
They all need to at least have signs that says, "The CDC recommends that everyone wear masks"....
None of the stores that I visited in the past week have any new signage about the CDC recommendations. Not a single one.
If patrons get strong signals about masks, there is a good chance that many will wear them, even if they aren't mandatory.
As it is, only a few people are.
I don't think retailers are paying attention to stats.
Since WalMart is HEB's largest competitor, I expect them to copy WalMart....
Strongly encouraging masks is much better than "You really don't need a mask"

(34,092 posts)The vaccine is only about 80% effective at preventing symptomatic disease transmission (per Fauci). People who have been vaccinated can contract the disease even if they are asymptomatic. You can pass it on to the children you claim to care about. You can pass it on to other vaccinated individuals. You could be the site for the next new, dangerous variant.
We each need to do our part to prevent the spread of this disease - and that means layers of mitigation - vaccinaton + masking.

(26,142 posts)Wow. I am shocked you think this is something to be proud of. As Ms. Toad said, you are part of the problem. You are literally as bad as the anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers.
Educate yourself, and be a good citizen.
I have also had Covid, and have been vaxxed for months, and I wear the mask because I'm not a sociopath.

(4,411 posts)Here in Michigan, I was practically the only person wearing one inside Krogers over the past month or so. While Michigan is in pretty good shape compared to the rest of the country, cases are rising again, and Delta has shown up in the state.
EDIT: Ah, CRAP! Upon reading the article, I see that it is only a "strong recommendation" by Kroger, not a requirement...
Little that will help among the covidiots...
