19 Aug Nabisco Workers in Chicago on Strike
Source: BCTGM Local 1
BCTGM International President Anthony Shelton issued the following statement in support of members of BCTGM Local 1 (Chicago, Ill.) who are on strike against Nabisco in Chicago:
Today, members of Local 1 at the Nabisco Bakery in Chicago joined their Brothers and Sisters in Portland, Ore., Aurora, Col. and Richmond, Va. in striking Nabisco.
Nabisco has long profited from the loyalty and dedication of its U. S. workers and the exploitation of its employees in Mexico. By taking this action, Nabisco workers in all four locations are saying strong and clear: stop exporting our jobs to Mexico and end your demands for contract concessions. The BCTGM will take all appropriate action necessary in order to reach a contract settlement that treats Nabisco workers fairly and equitably.
Through generations of hard work and dedication, BCTGM members at Nabisco have earned and deserve the security of a fair union contract that preserves American jobs. Standing strong in solidarity, we will not allow the company to force concessions onto the workers.

(26,298 posts)jobs where labor is cheaper as long as its also cheap to then import the items into the US and there is little legally that can be done as its a trade treaty issue.
Sucks, and I think companies are both vile and short sighted in doing it as they forget the people they fire and take the jobs from are their customers as well as they create more jobs when they have money to spend which then creates more customers but unless something changes I think companies will continue to export the jobs.

Either money they fear losing for their campaigns or money they fear they will lose as they own companies that export jobs overseas or they own stock in said companies.
