Mike Richards Out as 'Jeopardy!' Host Amid Cascade of Scandals
Source: Yahoo News
Mike Richards is out as Jeopardy! host, just nine days after he was tapped to succeed the legendary Alex Trebrek as the face of the beloved quiz show.
Richards, who is also executive producer of Jeopardy!, saw his hold on the job undone with astonishing speed after unflattering and downright ugly details surfaced about his past conduct and statements he made on an eight-year-old podcast series.
On Aug. 19, the Anti-Defamation League called for an investigation after a report surfaced in The Ringer that Richards made disparaging remarks about Jews, women and other groups in episodes of the comedy podcast The Randumb Show recorded in 2013 and 2014.
In the end, Sony concluded that Richards image was too battered for him to take the helm of one of televisions most prestigious and popular brands. The irony is that the studio moved in his favor because he was seen as a neutral personality rather than an established name that might overshadow the show and its famously rapid fire, answers-in-the-form-of-a-question format.

(63,912 posts)He had a rather bug-eyed expression during the show which, to me, emphasized him as the focal point of the show. I know my own interpretation is my own and others might disagree.

(12,165 posts)Out of the guest hosts, he was in my bottom three. If you frequent fan forums, the majority agree that Burton was a let down.
The worst thing about Richards is Richards overall toxicity. The second worst thing is this decision has reactivated the Burton stans.

(15,222 posts)I do not understand the movement to get Geordie on Jeopardy. He just doesn't fit the mold if you ask me. So many others were simply better at the job.

(25,947 posts)when you announce a new executive producer for Jeopardy!. You decided against giving him the job of host after getting pressure, but youre OK with a bigot and misogynist on your payroll.

(62,423 posts)Second choice for me would be Ken Jennings. I know that is not a popular choice, but I like his nerdiness.

(12,165 posts)Aaron Rodgers. I had never heard of him, but he won me over with his mellow tone and great pacing.
Ken Jennings was good, too.
Savannah Guthrie and Sanjay Gupta were also among my favorites.

Watch it and see what I mean. Streep has her choice of which interview she will do and it is telling that she chose Roberts.

(67,782 posts)....smooth and looked very comfortable in the job.
I like Lavar Burton as an actor and person, but he was too "out there" on Jeopardy.

(10,885 posts)Even though I didn't care for him as a contestant, he did a great job as a host. I hope TPTB take another look at him for the position.

(976 posts)He's a good actor and seems like a nice guy, but was miscast as Jeopardy host. Jeopardy is about the game and the contestants, that's why Trebek insisted on being called the host rather than the "star." Burton was too loud and intrusive. He seemed to be on a kid's show. The best guest hosts were the ones that just read the questions in a calm understated way while occasionally making witty remark. Bialiak, Rogers, Faber, and yes Roberts all got it right.

Her and Richards were named 'the hosts' a little while back was my understanding.
If Richards being fired undermines Mayim's gig there, I'm going to be pissed.
