(9,090 posts)the dittoheads who listened to limbaugh give his spin earlier in the day on 600 radio stations, frustrated they couldn't call limbaugh and kiss his ass, would call their local blowhards and police them by repeating limbaugh and screaming at the producers etc- those were the real political correctness police, while bill maher blasted some sensitive hippie showing real concern for global warming or racism. and limbaugh policing 1500 radio stations attacked high school kids with bush sucks t-shirts to push school admin to censor them.
these assholes broadcast on stations licensed to operate in the public interest while following limbaiugh's lead in calling covid a hoax

(35,732 posts)It was a good day for republican word twisties. Ive been laughing all day at how Lindsey Graham had to abandon saying the word cataclysmic Sunday morning on Face the Nation. He can only aspire to such polysyllabic heights when criticizing Joe Biden.
To his credit, he understood it was beyond his grasp and quit trying.
Maybe practice your hard words, Lindsey, before your next Faceplant the Nation appearance.😏

(26,319 posts)as ventilators should be reserved primarily for those that make the choice to try and help society by being vaccinated but nonetheless still catch the virus.

I started by pointing out that very few vaccinated people get sick enough to need a ventilator. Maybe I should have followed that up by saying, "Might as well let the antivax idiots have most of 'em."

(26,319 posts)but otherwise though they should have to live (or not) with the consequences of their choice not get vaccinated.

You can be sure that Murdoch and his children as well as the Fox executives and many of its hosts are smarter than this and immune to their own manipulation, but not so these influential intermediaries who spread their gospel of misinformation.

(790 posts)The scientists know. Not too long ago someone linked on DU an article which quoted a Mayo Clinic top expert on vaccinations, Dr. Gregory Poland. Dr. Poland says he still wears a mask when out in public, when he's in a crowded scenario, whether it be indoors or outdoors.
"Don't be deceived that 'I got this far and I am OK.' This is a very different variant. It will find you," Poland told CBS 4.
"This virus will find everybody who is not immune," he added. The variant has become the dominant strain in the U.S. as cases are on the rise in swaths of the country with low vaccination rates.
On August 8, 2021, Larry Brilliant, a famed epidemiologist (he was a member of the team that helped to eradicate smallpox), said the Delta variant of coronavirus is "maybe the most contagious virus" ever. The pandemic is not coming to an end soon -- given that only a small proportion of the world population has been vaccinated against Covid-19. The good news is that vaccines -- particularly those using messenger RNA technology and the one by Johnson & Johnson -- are holding up against the delta variant, Brilliant told CNBC's "Street Signs."
Still, only 15% of the world population has been vaccinated and more than 100 countries have inoculated less than 5% of their people, noted Brilliant.
"I think we're closer to the beginning than we are at the end [of the pandemic,] and that's not because the variant that we're looking at right now is going to last that long," said Brilliant. If the prediction turns out to be true, it means that the Delta variant spreads so quickly that "it basically runs out of candidates" to infect, explained Brilliant. It appears to be a similar pattern in the U.K. and India, where the spread of the Delta variant has receded from recent highs. (No doubt America will keep Delta plenty busy.)
But in addition to boosting vaccination in countries with a low inoculation rate, Brilliant said one group of people needs a booster shot "right away" -- those who are 65 years and above, and were fully vaccinated more than six months ago but have a weakened immune system. "It is this category of people that we've seen create multiple mutations when the virus goes through their body," said the epidemiologist. "So those people, I would say, should be given a third dose, a booster right away."

(22,166 posts)dumber than Homer Simpson ... when will they ever learn that sprouting conservative nonsense against common sense measures to battle the spread of a rapidly mutating killer virus that doesn't care about the political platform they stand for?
Perhaps sometimes, it's a good idea to stop over analyzing the Pros and/or the Cons of both sides of every issues and get down to business, realize that in some things, common sense measures such as masking, social distancing, vaccines, etc. do make sense, no matter what your political beliefs are.
My apologies to Homer Simpson ... the show has been a source of laughter and enjoyment for many years even though I haven't watched the show for a while.
