Wisconsin Spending Half of its 2020 Election Probe Money to Check Ballots, Voting Machines

Source: Newsweek

Wisconsin has earmarked nearly half of the money for its 2020 presidential election probe to be used to examine ballots and voting machines, a contract released Wednesday shows.

The probe is spending $676,000 in taxpayer money, with $325,000 set aside for a data analysis contractor. The contract shows the investigation will likely focus on examining ballots and voting machines, the Associated Press reported.

The contract, which was entered into by Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman was obtained by the Associated Press via the state open records law.

Gableman, who is leading the probe, has said that reviewing the voting machines will be one of his priorities. Conversely, Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson said in a video posted to Twitter that he does not support focusing on the voting machines.

Sounds like more voting machines will end up being junked.

Where oh where is our DOJ, another violation of federal election laws. Title 52 - Voting and Elections - Subtitle I and II - Ballots, voting systems, and other election materials are no longer in the custody of election officials.

I just don't get it, this is a continuation of the insurrection, of the Big Lie.

Elections Stealing & Shenanigans.

Those things have more remote access than a psychic medium.

They claim (after being caught) to have "fixed" the problem - but who knows.

what does the Republican Party hope to accomplish? They can't overturn the results of the 2020 election. Are they merely trying to give themselves another tool to attack the legitimacy of Biden's presidency, or is it more sinister? Along with the 400+ voter suppression laws GQP state legislatures are shoving through, it seems drawing into question the validity of the democratic system of government is their end goal. They want to turn back the clock to the moment just before the last state would have ratified the Constitution, so they can rewrite the document the way it should have been done, i.e., only rich white Christian men will have the power to govern.

5. IMO they're setting the stage for these types of disruptions immediately after our next elections.

They won't wait six months for lawsuits & judgements. They'll go in the day after the election & try to take over the process. Our DOJ sent a strongly worded letter to the shit show in AZ. One letter back in June.

they are getting the masses used to hearing about post-election "disputes" so that when the GQPee starts declaring results invalid people will just yawn and go along with it. The next step along the road to total authoritarianism with one-party minority rule.

2020 may have been the last free & (relatively) fair election.
Republicans will ignore the results of elections that don't go their way at the state level and SCOTUS will allow it because "States Rights".

10. Oo-o-o. A "strongly worded letter." I'm sure the GQP is shaking in their cloven hooves.

We're using a BB gun while they've got a howitzer. Isn't preserving democracy worth a nuke?

What are Manchin and Sinema getting out of blocking the voter protection acts? There's got to be money involved. It's not like exceptions to the filibuster rule haven't been made in the past. Why the f*ck does the rule still exist? Wasn't it created to allow Southern senators to block civil rights laws? The "We can't get rid of it because we might use it when the Republicans hold the Senate" excuse is as much bullshit as the "I'm not getting the vaccine because we don't know the long-term effects" one is by the anti-vaxxers. (We already know what the short-term effects are. For my unvaccinated friend it meant he died from COVID two weeks after going to a bar to listen to the band.)

If they get in power the first thing the Repugs will do is to get rid of the filibuster so the Dems won't be able to block their evil plans. The Dems are committed to the democratic process; all the GQP cares about is power, and they will do anything -- even destroy the American Experiment in self-governance, to achieve that goal.

And propping up The Big Lie. Where there's smoke there's fire principle. Its part of our DNA that if we are continually seeing prominent leaders in the community seemingly being sincere about being concerned about some danger, like the legitimacy of the present election system, it creates and sustains the overall discomfort and suspicion surrounding it.

It also sets up the opportunity to dismiss any future election results, but only if they do not win of course, and have built up a lot of True Believers who will be primed with a Pavlovian response to believe their candidate was robbed.

I really really hope Democrats win back the Senate, and keep the House in 2022. And then win the Presidency back in 2024. But if they do (maybe even if the don't) I think there will be another larger insurrection. The sabre rattling is starting. Openly calling for armed rebellion. I fear there will be a new civil war.

RE: "Conversely, Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson said in a video posted to Twitter that he does not support focusing on the voting machines."

Gee I wonder why...

Could it be the same reason so many in the GOP have made sure for years that no one looks into the voting machines and the related security possibilities?

I believe they know what the public will discover if there is an in-depth security analysis into the most commonly used voting tech systems in American today and for the last 15+ years since HAVA.

Much of the truth is already out there.
