Florida Department of Health's new rule: $5,000 fines for some vaccine mandates
Source: Tampa Bay Times
Businesses, schools and governments cant deny service to unvaccinated Floridains under a state law passed this year.
TALLAHASSEE Florida businesses and governments that require proof of COVID-19 vaccination from customers or members of the public will soon face $5,000 fines, according to a new Department of Health rule.
Earlier this year, the Republican-led Florida Legislature passed a bill, SB 2006, banning businesses, governments and schools from requiring vaccine passports essentially proof that people seeking their services have gotten a COVID-19 vaccine. In May, DeSantis signed that bill into law. The legislation allowed the states Department of Health to issue fines not to exceed $5,000 per violation.
On Aug. 27, the department filed a rule that lays out how it will enforce the law. Businesses, governments and schools will be fined $5,000 per individual and separate violation, the rule states.
Violators will be issued a notice of their infraction, and theyll have a chance to appeal their fines, the rule says. Once the fine is finalized, entities will have 30 days to pay it.

(64,427 posts)There was a public health interest in that legislation.
In this case, the opposite is true. They want to fine people for taking measures in the interest of public health.
Polar opposites.
You don't see the difference?

(11,488 posts)The cruise industry restarted under CDC guidance requiring all passengers to show proof of vaccination with an exception for a small percentage of children who aren't yet eligible for vaccinations. They've been sailing like this for nearly 2 months now, there's no way in hell they'll follow DeSatan's guidance. The rest of Florida should wise up and do the same.

(6,017 posts)I mean, apart from say CRA of '64 violations I'm pretty sure businesses are allowed to kick people out or not serve them at all.
Although lately it seems none of that matters in Red states that intend on setting up the US Supreme Court to ignore precedent and existing legislature by actively not taking up the case...

(1,910 posts)This law has no legal standing. Unvaccinated is not protected group in terms of civil rights.

(1,520 posts)Just post a notice that you are not welcome if you voted for Trump.
I think you would get 99% of the un-vaccinated that way.
Not sure if this is sarcasm or not...

(14,955 posts)Just like is happening in Texas with the recent abortion bill. So many spurious notifications are coming in about supposed violations that the site has crashed.

I would suggest that every major corporation that has any business in TX be reported as requiring vaccinations. Let's watch as Abbot/stupids start to fine IBM, Intel, Entergy, sports teams, entertainment groups, etc.
Stupids.

(24,632 posts)republican controlled state Florida that believes in some BS called Pro life just like Texas, is now putting people under a death sentence if they call for masks, so how is that pro life, it is not....I almost forgot they like to send people off to war another pro life mantra of BS they espouse....so in conclusion they are now trying to see who can be the first total fascist state.....
I would demand that these two state professional teams and "all" college teams be banned in playing other teams out of state and that all other teams will not fly, drive, walk, go by bus, train or ship to these states...
