More than 500,000 children tested positive for Covid-19 in 3 weeks. Experts say school mask mandates
Source: CNN
(CNN) -- The dramatic rise in Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations due to the more transmissible Delta variant is significantly impacting all age groups, particularly Americans ages 11 or younger who are not yet eligible to receive vaccinations.
More than 500,000 children tested positive for Covid-19 in the US from August 5 to August 26, according to state data collected by the American Academy of Pediatrics. At least 203,962 of those cases were reported in the week of August 19 to August 26; In late June, one weekly reported number was just shy of 8,500.
With concerns building over safely allowing children to return to in-person learning at schools, health experts agree that mask mandates are an effective tool in stemming infections.
"The virus is raging in all these children who are unvaccinated, which is why in schools mask mandates are so important," CNN medical analyst Dr. Jonathan Reiner told Jake Tapper last week, pointing out that inoculation rates are also low among adolescents who are eligible. "They have no other protection. They're literally sitting ducks."

(10,141 posts)Because we are dealing with children and they don't keep the masks on and the Delta variant is very, very contagious. And all these kids and people in one area day after day, going out to other people then coming together again, guarantees each of them will catch it.
Which variant is coming next? Because opening up schools is just what is needed to incubate a really nasty new variant.
All because capitalism is dying and we have to open up to keep the failed economic system alive. Otherwise how will the filthy rich make billions again? I mean already cruise ship and chain restaurant billionaires are a bit poorer. Do you want them to go down to their last $5 million?

He's homeschooling. He just gave up on the school system and their rediculus plans. But he's lucky, he and his wife both work from home. And their schedules are so they can take turns with the kids.

(5,097 posts)For some people. They don't care about them. They care about money and looking the part. You know, 3.4 kids and 1.6 pets? Makes me sick to my stomach. This is part of the reason why I stopped working in education. Too many are doing almost everything except educating. Then, when you have slime using them as political or social pawns... so freaking disgusting.

It's no big deal to them when only a few die.

(14,124 posts)I'm in Illinois, so mask mandated, bit distancing was given the heave ho. Until next week. We go back to extreme mitigation the day after Labor Day. If that doesn't stop it, we will have to go remote. We were only remote for about 6 days last year.
