Taliban accused of murdering pregnant Afghan policewoman in front of her family
Source: CNN
By Jaide Garcia and Jonny Hallam,
(CNN)The Taliban murdered a pregnant policewoman in front of her family on Saturday night, according to her son. Her death, in the central Afghanistan province of Ghor, adds to mounting concerns about the repression of women under the Taliban's rule.
The victim's full name was Negar Masoomi, her sister told CNN. Her killing was also confirmed to CNN by a local journalist in Ghor, who said she worked in Ghor prison and was eight months pregnant when she died.
The Taliban told CNN they were not involved in her death, but have launched an investigation.
Video obtained by CNN showed her son Mohammad Hanif giving his account of the murder, saying that the Taliban came inside the house where his family lives, then took himself and his brothers outside and tied them up.
Negar Masoomi was killed in front of her family, according to her son.

(2,686 posts)WTF. They blew her freaking brains out in front of her family. She was pregnant, a working mother. The freaking blew her brains out. This is not mounting concerns time. its time to address the Taliban as the bloodthirsty terrorist fanatics they have always been. Time to ostracize them from the world community, homie to do absolutely nothing to help them establish their vicious, ugly, disgusting dictatorship over women -- and to stop freaking listening to their lying claims that they are innocent of murderous acts such as this.
If, in fact, their claim is that it was ISIS, let them prove it was ISIS. The word of the Taliban is worthless by itself. They are a dishonorable people and they have proven to be dishonorable time and time again.
Mounting concerns my ass.

Several other women police have also been killed. They are searching door to door to find them. A lady judge posted that she was moving every two to three days and that she couldn't even trust her family.
So they're on point as per their previous behavior. As the family is righteously terrified. As we all should be.

(2,267 posts)And they may come from different ideologies of Islam (Shia vs Sunni), but they operate with the exact same methodology: Ruthless oppression and suppression of those they feel dont conform to their dark-age interpretations of their holy book. Sounds an awful lot like the GOPQ and its paramilitary wing with the Christian Right.

(7,498 posts)I find it interesting that the Taliban claim they are not responsible for this killing and are opening an investigation. I suspect what's going to happen is that top leadership is going to try to appear somewhat moderate (by Afghan standards) in order to gain international recognition and that lower level leaders are going to try to run things the way they were prior to 2001.

(1,773 posts)The overall thrust seems to be that while thousands of pregnant woman are presumably dying elsewhere, the Taliban have only murdered one thus far.
I mean what other conclusion can one draw? Why else would anyone possessing any semblance of decency and compassion conflate a specific news story about an absolutely savage and subhumanly barbaric murder of a pregnant woman in Afghanistan at the hands of the Taliban with something entirely unrelated occurring elsewhere?

(328 posts).. and her husband took her to a Catholic hospital. The pregnancy was in the fallopian tube. Not survivable for either mother or baby-to-be.
The religious fanatics, both doctors and priests.. were prepared to let her bleed to death rather than make a choice and save the life they could save.....
So your point is ??????
(btw, her husband got her out of there and to another hospital in time... )
