Biden to address pandemic-weary nation

Source: Yahoo News

WASHINGTON — President Biden will address the nation on Thursday, the White House said, laying out a “six-pronged strategy” to combat the coronavirus pandemic throughout the fall. The speech will likely mark a stark departure from the upbeat announcements of last spring, as vaccination rates rose and infection rates declined.

The Delta variant frustrated Biden’s plans for a “summer of freedom.” With cold weather approaching and children returning to school, he faces a challenge in telling Americans that the end is still in sight — but that he, and they, must do more to bring the pandemic to its conclusion.

Americans’ confidence in Biden’s handling of the pandemic is waning. A new poll from Gallup found that only 40 percent of Americans say the president is communicating clearly on the pandemic; 42 percent say he lacks clarity. “This is the first time Americans have not been more positive than negative about his communication, as a presidential candidate or president-elect in 2020 or as president this year,” Gallup senior editor Jeffrey M. Jones wrote of those results on Tuesday.

a number of Republican politicians and pundits spreading lies about vaccines and opposed to masks.
Why would they do it deliberately? Because they want to win the Senate and House majority in the next election and they see causing thousands of deaths via the pandemic as a way of undermining Biden and the Democrats.

In addition, let's not forget that most of them are also the owners of most of the nation. They are not making money if we are not working their factories and offices. Having to make adjustments to their bottom line means less in their wallets. It also means more leeway towards the serf class due to the reality of a pandemic. Better to deny it exists and force the peons back to work. If some die, well, that was calculated into the yearly projections anyway. We really need to stop ignoring this reason, because it explains the insanity better than 'owning the libs'. Which some of the psychos still want to do as well.

Anyone remember when we were 'we' the people, not 'just us' people? Between racism, classism, and religious bias, were we ever a 'we'?

Let's review:

January 2021 - no vaccines being widely distributed, COVID-19 running wild and killing THOUSANDS a day while we come out of the first winter season with a full pandemic.

May 2021 - vaccines widely available and distributed; cases dropping to lowest levels in over a year; chance is available to vaccinate everyone by summer and be on top of COVID before another indoor cold weather season can hit...

WAS THAT JOE BIDEN'S "FAULT" TOO? Fucking media goons make me sick. They chase the angle that it is someone's fault that Americans are terminally stupid on balance and that far too many people made public health a political tent pole issue instead of public fucking health.

September 2021 - MILLIONS remain unvaccinated because they are too stupid to waste any more empathy on...but worse than that...they are actively participating in a viral experiment that COULD eventually result in a mutation and variant that evades vaccines and becomes dominant in weeks or even days. Their being assholes is enough to extend the pandemic, threaten our best chance to evade this thing and make it all the way out of the pandemic into a world where COVID-19 is not the existential threat that it remains today.

People wallowing in their stupidity used to be ashamed of their own lack of knowledge or understanding - unless they were the crazy uncle at Thanksgiving or the local bar drunk at last call - but now? Morons are PROUD of their own crapulance and lack of fundamental understanding or even conversational understanding of scientific topics like virology, microbiology, disease transmission, vaccines, genetics and more...why, you might ask?

Because they saw it on fucking Facebook or 'heard it from a friend'.

1 National mandate, all schools, hospital workers, students must be vaccinated

2 ALL government employees must be vaccinated.

3. All social security recipients must be vaccinated or lose your benefits, same for military retirees.

4 National lockdown of all sports venues, including pro and college football, no fans allowed.

5 Stimulus check, $2000 to every fully vaccinated American.

6 National vaccine passport to travel, anywhere, or face federal charges

He inherited a catastrophe. Several of them, obviously.

It’s quite clear that the measures in place right now are not containing the pandemic. I’ll be listening and I hope to hear some new, innovative and practical ideas on how we can get through this and put it behind us.

I definitely fall in the category of “pandemic weary”.

The only thing I'd really like to hear from Biden at this point is to admit the CDC rolling back its mask-wearing recommendations before we knew the details of the capability of Delta was a flat-out mistake.

That's caused to end of grief because people as a whole quit taking preventative measures seriously.

And even if it had turned out to be OK with Delta itself, it was still a mistake because the widespread nature of the pandemic means there's still new variants being spawned at a rapid pace....

MSM wants ratings because that puts dollars in the corporate coffers and that is what matters.

A compare and contrast to what Trump did or didn't do would be highly favorable for Biden but that will never happen because that would not help drive ratings and income. sp a steady stream of bad reporting is what we have to consume and base our opinions on.

How soon the pandemic finally ends depends on ordinary people stepping up to do the right thing. He has been very consistent in hammering home this message since he won the election last November.

The problem now is the same as it's been throughout the pandemic: the stubborn refusal by tens of millions of Americans to do the absolute minimum for their country. Neither Biden's speech nor any bold actions his administration takes from this point forward will persuade my Republican friend to take the vaccine, nor will it convince the millions of others who either want him to look bad or believe in anti-vaccine disinformation about microchips, sterility, or autism. They will react by ramping up the frequency and intensity of the actions they have already been taking - quitting their jobs, protesting mask/vaccine mandates, and committing acts of violence against people for enforcing mask/vaccine policies.

IMO, if anyone should go it should be Dr. Rochelle Wallensky. She's been an unmitigated disaster. She's wishy washy in her decision making. She jumped the gun big time on masks.

Her televised presentations reminded me of Sesame Street only not as effective or valuable educationally, completely lacking in gravitas and confidence. She engenders even less confidence than she projects. It has to be a nightmare to have to work with her. She's the one that needs to go.
