South Dakota governor issues order restricting abortion medications

South Dakota Gov. Kristi L. Noem (R) on Tuesday issued an executive order restricting telemedicine abortions and abortion medications, days after she called for a review of the states abortion laws.
The order mandates that abortion medication can be prescribed or dispensed only after an in-person examination by a doctor licensed in South Dakota. It also bans abortion medication from being provided via courier, delivery, telemedicine, or mail service, as well as on state grounds or in schools.
Social conservatives like Noem have been emboldened by the Supreme Courts decision last week to not block a Texas law banning abortions as early as six weeks into pregnancy, or before many people know they are pregnant. In Texas, another bill that has been sent to Gov. Greg Abbott (R) for his approval also restricts abortion medications.
The Texas law, which does not provide exceptions for rape or incest, relies on private citizens to sue people who aid women in getting a prohibited abortion. That legal intricacy has allowed it to circumvent the guarantee in the landmark Roe v. Wade case that women have a right to end their pregnancies before viability, and that states may not impose undue burdens on that decision, abortion rights advocates say.

(9,958 posts)And since Republicans have no policies, their means of competing for the 2024 nomination is to out-crazy one another. Republicans never get less outrageous, they always push the envelope as much as they can. And, mostly, voters reward them for their outrage and the show they put on. I wish Democrats would learn to use their power and to stop worrying about their own voters so much. From what Ive read, most Democrats want them to do more and to be bolder in dealing with Republicans instead of worrying about what McConnell might do in the future if the filibuster is gone. Why is it that Democrats respect Republican wishes when theyre in charge and Republicans always tell Democrats to shove off when theyre in charge. There has been no reciprocation since McConnell gained power, and there will be none after hes gone because this Republican Party seeks power for one purpose only, and that is to preserve the wealth of billionaires and white privilege throughout the country.

(6,906 posts)It takes stronger and stronger medicine to control an addict. Politicians must now outperform each other to prove to deplorable voters they are the most deplorable.
Politicians are tools, but the deplorable voters controlling them are dangerous morons.

(43,027 posts)I'd be surprised if a governor has the power to search, limit delivery of carrier packages. Interstate Commerce and all that. Thus far, for example, it's not illegal to deliver contraceptives. It's not like it's contraband.

(10,134 posts)Does Kristi have stock in abortion medicines?
The price will skyrocket. Stocks will go up. Just look at all the money opioids brought into the Sacklers.
Get a bunch of the medicine. India sells it over the counter, no prescription neccasary. And sell it person to person. Just try and stop abortions when all you need to do is take 2 pills.
They are never going to put the genie back in the bottle or that yoke around women's neck again, no matter how hard they try.
