California QAnon believer indicted on charges of killing his 2 children with a spear fishing gun
Source: NBC News
A California father who said he was enlightened by QAnon to kill his 10-month-old daughter and 2-year-old son with a spear fishing gun in Mexico was indicted by a San Diego federal grand jury Wednesday.
Matthew Taylor Coleman, 40, is charged with two counts of foreign first-degree murder of United States nationals, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorneys Office for the Southern District of California.
Coleman, a surfing instructor from Santa Barbara, could face the death penalty.
A criminal complaint filed last month accuses Coleman of killing his children "by shooting a spear fishing gun into their chests."

QAnon believers should be labeled a terrorist organization. They are a danger to our country.

(1,156 posts)These psychos just have no limits to their depravity and cruelty. This guy needs to suffer the worst of consequences. There should be no punishment that is off limits for the heinous act he has committed.

(3,501 posts)He confessed to killing the children, according to the complaint, telling investigators that "he believed his children were going to grow into monsters so he had to kill them."
"Coleman explained that he was enlightened by QAnon and Illuminati conspiracy theories and was receiving visions and signs" that revealed his wife was telling him "he was saving the world from monsters," the complaint said.
According to the document, Coleman said he knew it was wrong to kill his children, "but it was the only course of action that would save the world."

(5,734 posts)That is enough. If he is committed to a mental hospital, he could be released someday. Compounding this is a man who is physically attractive and charming and who could murder his children without any indication of intent. Some poor woman, ten years from now, could go surfing with her "date" and wind up with a fishing spear in her chest.
Good people are suffering. There is nothing that this man could do in his life to make his life valuable enough to save. Since Sirhan Sirhan is being released, a life sentence (after he "charms" the parole board) is not safe.
Send him to God, and let God be the judge.

The federal insanity defense now requires the defendant to prove, by "clear and convincing evidence," that "at the time of the commission of the acts constituting the offense, the defendant, as a result of a severe mental disease or defect, was unable to appreciate the nature and quality or the wrongfulness of his acts"
While he said he knew it was wrong to kill his children, believing that he was doing so for the greater good of saving the world, is a serious mental defect one can't look past.

(87 posts)Perhaps I am biased as there is a history of schizophrenia in my family. Anyone receiving "Visions and signs" has more than a bad conspiracy theory habit. They are truly, mentally, ill.
Jail will do nothing for him, but make it worse. I'm not a Republican. I don't seek revenge on people.

Or the Jihadist who believe if they blow themselves up with a suicide bomb they will go to paradise and have 70 virgins at their disposal?

There are mentions of there being no warning signs. His functioning in other areas does not seem diminished.
We may be looking at a healthy man of sound mind
who is willing to murder and has murdered his own children because of QAnon.

(90,683 posts)Shes beyond stunned. She said something about Paradise lost my friends little house has a big yard, which shes been intensively gardening every weekend for almost 50 years: Paradise.
Think what you will about what might be the snake I think its Q. I think Q got into his brain and ate it.
Theres been a debate here about whether Sirhan2 committed an ordinary murder, and whether those of us who were alive then are simply indulging in a combination of nostalgia and revenge.
Sirhan is a political assassin who tried to kill our democratic government. So no, he doesnt get to be paroled in a sensible world.
I see theres now a debate over what kind of sentence should be meted out to Coleman. Is this an ordinary murder? Is he insane? Is his insanity temporary? Will he come back at his wife, the woman he thinks has reptile DNA, and finish his bloody mission?
The crime was horrific. Will it seem less horrific after hes been locked up for a couple of decades? He seems to be a charmer will he charm the Parole Board? Hes a Bible-thumper already will he be one of those model prisoners sustained by his faith, and charm supporters outside prison? If hes in a mental hospital setting, will they keep him forever? or medicate to stability, then let him back into a world where he can choose to stop taking his meds?
Sirhan shook the nation, as he did his part to take us down.
Coleman has shaken a neighborhood, the local world of surfers and childcare operations, the town, destroyed his wife destroyed innocence.
Just a meditation on Paradise lost.
