CASTIAC, Calif. (AP) A wildfire near Castaic Saturday has led to the closure of a part of a major freeway in Southern California, officials told local media.
The fire, known as the Route Fire, reached 392 acres, or a little more than half a square mile, as of 6:28 p.m. and forced the shutdown of a section of Interstate 5, an Angeles National Forest spokesperson told KTLA-TV.
KTLA reported that the Route Fire is threatening structures, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department Santa Clarita Valley station.
The fire was uncontained as of 6:30 p.m., authorities said.

(2 posts)SR 99 doesn't go around -- it starts/ends north of the Grapevine. You can go around by the coastal route, 166 to 101, or take 138/14 through Palmdale. I drive Bakersfield to Santa Clarita every weekday, that area that's on fire ALWAYS has something going on.

(12,264 posts)I meant to say take the 99 to the 58 thru Tehachapi on into Kramers Jct., from there catch US 395 down to I-15 to by pass the closure or if going north, reverse it.
I kinda figured truckers would know this, I've had to do this on occasion to get around the Grapevine, or I'll just grab a spot at the Pilot in Castaic and wait it out.
