Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis let a man falsely claim the COVID vaccine 'changes your RNA' during an ant

Source: Business Insider

anti-vaccine mandate press conference

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis stood by as a Gainesville city employee falsely claimed the COVID-19 vaccine "changes your RNA" during a press conference to promote the governor's campaign against vaccine mandates and passports.

DeSantis invited several employees of the city of Gainesville, which is requiring its public employees to get vaccinated or face termination, to speak out against the vaccine mandates on Monday. The governor highlighted unvaccinated first responders facing potential termination as a result of the mandates, which he argued are unconstitutional. But DeSantis made no mention of the pervasive misinformation fueling much of the opposition to the life-saving shots on Monday.

"The vaccine changes your RNA, so, for me, that's a problem," the Gainesville man, Darris Friend, said from the podium. "They're taking away our freedom and liberty, little by little. They're using the vaccine for cover. Last year, they took away our religious rights, they're not defending our freedom of speech, and this is just one way to take us to the next step."

The crowd cheered as Friend left the podium and the governor said nothing to contradict his false claim, part of a conspiracy theory popular online that the vaccines alter a person's DNA. They do not. Scientists and public health officials, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, have made clear that the vaccines do not alter human DNA in any way.

DeSantis, Abbott, and Trump have all been vaccinated so it must have changed their RNA?

If they're so worried about mRNA, just take the J&J vaccine which is viral vector like all the other vaccines people have already taken as required for school and many jobs.

Oh well, these idiots are killing their own voters in some big swing states. Not a good strategy for DeSantis to launch his presidential bid.

Viruses! For example, HPV. Malignant and premalignant cells in the uterine cervix contain parts of the HPV genome.

This is my youngest brother, talking about things he doesn't understand, he is a MAGA, Climate denying, libertarian, who has confirmation bias, has been brainwashed by right wing propaganda, and Faux News, his wife is also MAGA, and was at the insurrection.

He has convinced my mother to not get vaccinated. We aren't really on good speaking terms because we can't seem to have discussions where he will accept any other perspectives, or information that doesn't fit into his view of things.

I heard through a family group text that he was most likely going to be on some news maybe national news so I asked why and found out about this that way

He was more concerned with looking sweaty than looking like a misinformed foolish person.

I don't know what his rant about RNA, Monsanto, or people taking away his right to go to church was all about, because he isn't even a religious person except maybe if you count worshiping the cult of personality that is Trump

I would only guess that he was some how asked to regurgitate some anti-vaxxer right wing talking points based on what he said, unfortunately I have no doubts that he believes the things that he said

Can they even explain the difference between DNA and RNA?
I guarantee they can't spell it.
