Larry Elder Won't Commit to Accepting Gubernatorial Recall Results on Election Eve

Larry Elder, the leading Republican candidate in the California gubernatorial recall election, has refused to say whether he will accept the results of the election if he loses.

Elder made the remarks during an interview with MSNBC's Jacob Soboroff on Monday. On the eve of the election, Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom appears likely to survive the recall effort, with an average polling lead of 16.6 percent, according to polling analysis site FiveThirtyEight. Elder refused to answer when Soboroff asked him if he would accept Tuesday's results regardless of whether he wins or loses, attempting to deflect the conversation into a discussion about "election integrity" instead.

"I think we all ought to be looking at election integrity," said Elder. "No matter whether you're a Democrat, an independent or a Republican. Let's all make sure that the election is a fair election. So let's all work together, no matter what the results are, to make sure that the results are valid and legitimate and everybody who voted, should have voted. Let's all do that together."

"Is that a commitment to accept the results of the election tomorrow?" Soboroff asked.

24. The structure of the California Governor recall election is unfair even though

I expect Newsome to retain his position and sent in my recall ballot weeks ago. At the time thought what was weird was that I received by mail and sent in my ballot before got the voter info packet.

But what was unfair in structure was that there were two votes: (1) Yes or no on recall, and (2) Pick one of IIRC 46 candidates in the case of recall.

What this means is that Newsome could get 49.9% NO votes and there could be 50.1% YES votes and Newsome would be recalled the the new Governor would be whomever got the most votes (note that by his choice Newsome is not one of the candidates). What this means is that essentially Newsome could receive 50% of the vote yet in the recall vote but if the recall is YES, a new Governor could be elected with less than 10% of the votes casts.

In and of itself, the structure of the election is not fair. What else is new about attempting to have fair, democratic elections between Democratic and GOP candidates. The GOP has the tactic from the start to spin the election every way possible in their favor because a majority of voters do not want to vote for the GOP in Blue stats and most urban areas.

Glad when this distraction is over but expect Elders (and the GOP) as a matter of course will claim the election as flawed, actually this GOP effort started long before the vote. So predictable at this stage.
