FBI fires agent who failed to pursue tips about sex abuse by USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar
Source: Washington Post
An FBI agent accused of failing to properly investigate former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar and lying about it later has been fired by the FBI, days before a high-stakes public hearing into the bureaus flawed investigation of the child sex-abuse case involving Simone Biles and other world-famous gymnasts.
Michael Langeman, who as a supervisory special agent in the FBIs Indianapolis office interviewed gymnast McKayla Maroney in 2015 about her alleged abuse at the hands of Nassar, lost his job last week, two people familiar with the matter told The Washington Post. They spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss personnel matters.
A July report by Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz harshly criticized Langeman without naming him as well as his former boss, Jay Abbott, for their handling of the Nassar case, saying the FBI failed to pursue it and then lied to inspector general investigators when confronted with those failures.
At the time, officials said Langeman had been removed from the duties of an FBI agent a move often taken before the bureau fires someone. FBI firings are relatively rare; most investigators facing serious discipline choose to retire or resign before they can be terminated.

The guy involved with US gymnastics was on the faculty at Michigan State University.
Both deplorable, both covered up. But different cases.

(38,365 posts)Can you guess who did NOT.. go after Langeman and Abbott?....hard guess..eh? ...Donald Trump
something about sexual abuse...yea, you got that one right... .....I wonder if this ever got that high in the
legal chain....? It wouldn't surprise me, would it surprise you?....
Stuart G
(38,365 posts)..........something about ...sexual abuse...?....well.....what do you know...there is more to the show....
If it got that high up, that an official in the White House knew and didn't tell Trump, or if Trump knew and didn't do
anything....well.....well.....well.............then there is more to the ...Trump Show......
and if there was a .....cover up at the White House..and that can be somewhat proven..there will be
a ..... ..LOT MORE TO THE TRUMP SHOW...!!!!....what do you think?.....after all this is a terrible...
If Abbott did go to the White House to inform them of this, then there is more.
Failure of the FBI to deal with an important issue...is that correct?... .Would this issue get to the head of
the FBI?..would the head of the FBI then take it to the President? ] well that is what I thought too..but we will all seem given enough time, and if Joe goes after it all...(a great deal of speculation...but if Abbott (an FBI agent) knew
and he did NOT take it to the "big boss"...well there could be more...(Note: I said could be)
