Joe Biden has 'great confidence' in top general Milley after Trump revelation
Source: The Guardian
Joe Biden threw his weight behind the top US military officer on Wednesday, saying he had great confidence in the general who, according to a new book, took steps to prevent the outgoing Republican president Donald Trump from going rogue and launching a nuclear war or an attack on China.
Mark Milley, chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, also defended phone calls he made to his Chinese military counterpart in the tumultuous final months of Trumps presidency, signaling that the hitherto secret conversations were in keeping with his duties.
I have great confidence in General Milley, Biden said at the White House, when asked if the military leader had done the right thing by intervening.
Moments earlier, White House press secretary Jen Psaki had told reporters that Biden, the Democratic president who beat Trump last November, backs Milleys leadership, his patriotism, and his fidelity to our constitution.

I agree with President Biden's judgement on this.

Please try to imagine a Nuclear War with China, a nuclear war with Iran...say your prayers and be ready to leave this World, it is as simple as that.
Milley is a hero, it takes guts to do something as heroic as that. I like Vindman, but he should shut-up.

(1,910 posts)They are in frequent contact with their adversaries and allies alike. 2 generals on CNN said its part of the job. They call the other leaders in similar positions all the time. They make sure the other side knows about any troop movements, etc. so no one accidentally starts a war.
Once a war is declared by the President, totally different rules.
Once again Repugs are trying to distract. Milley did absolutely nothing that was not part of his job. He was also trying to stay within the lines while dealing a deteriorating and crazed President.

Can we say the same about:
Mike Flynn?
Paul Manafort?
Rudy Giuliani?
Roger Stone?
the rest of the Trump cabinet?
White House Counsel?
Republican Leadership and Republican elected officials?
etc

(14,570 posts)Good for Milley.
But...Let's not make this a habit. With Biden, for instance. Or like the Republicans apologized to Bebe Netanyahu over the Iran agreement - That was treason; It was definitely NOT preventing O from doing something 'horrible, awful and terrible,' because he was a find president, and I always felt safe with him in the WH. Same with Biden. With Trump...not so much.

Broke chain of command requiring civilian control of military.
Maybe he's a 'straight ahead, squared away' soldier who brooks no extenuating circumstances.
I dunno.
I'm gald Milley was there.

The way I understand it, this takes place after the insurrection of January 6th 2021 and at that point it just didn't take Sherlock Holmes or Sigmund Freud to know the Commander in Chief was mentally unstable.

Snip< I know, thats what Ive been trying to tell Trump, Pence responded. But he really thinks he can. And there are other guys in there saying Ive got this power.

(22,114 posts)United States' largest customers and vice-versa. All because of 1 idiotic, insane, and obviously mentally unstable person who obviously never read an intelligence report, paid far more attention to faux news for his daily shot of news and/pretend intelligence reports (which was mostly fake and very slanted according to faux guidelines).
The cabinet surrounding then PINO trump at that time should have immediately invoked the 25th amendment and removed rump. Why didn't they? Where in the hell was pence? Where in the hell were the rest of rump's cabinet who should have been more alert than they obviously were then during these events (all cowardly and spineless GOP operatives obviously). Thank god for at least one additional check that was in place via General Miley and others.
This should never ever be allowed to happen again...rump should never ever be allowed to run again for any elected office. He is literally a national security threat to the U.S. and the World.
I don't care what his 30% rabies-infected rabble think anymore and I don't care what the media thinks anymore (owned by a very tiny majority of persons) since they don't report on what the 70% majority of us think, and who are solely going after higher ratings, more revenues for their pocketbooks.
Stop the madness and insanity. Remember, these people tried to overthrow our elected system of government...remember that and don't quote me 'be sure to vote!'...we had over 7 million+ votes over rump and they still came up w/ this nonsense of election rigging, fake voters, and all other sorts of nonsense and violently tried to still overthrow the government on 1/6/21 (and now, I'm wondering what other things that are yet to be revealed, that rump considered/did in his desperate attempts to stay in power)?
