Capitol Cop Told Friend Where Lawmakers Hid on Jan. 6, Report Says
Source: Daily Beast
Three of six Capitol Police officers facing disciplinary action over their handling of the Jan. 6 insurrection are under scrutiny for allegedly posing for selfies with the alleged rioters, while another is accused of divulging the secure location where lawmakers were evacuated during the chaos. Internal documents obtained by McClatchy News detail the evidence obtained by the police departments Office of Professional Responsibility in its probe of the officers conduct. In one case, the FBI tipped off the police department that one of its officers was shown in a Facebook photo with suspected rioters, according to the report. The unnamed officer later said hed posed with the suspect because he recognized him as an alpha male in the riots and wanted to have the photo to be able to identify him later. The internal documents note, however, that the officer apparently made no attempt to collect the suspects information.
Two other cases in which officers face discipline for conduct unbecoming also involve selfies. Another disciplinary case involves a special agent in the departments Protective Services Bureau who is accused of revealing classified information to a friend a week after the deadly riot. The friend, who is not identified in the documents, phoned the FBIs tip line to alert them to the concerning statements allegedly made by the agent when he spoke about where lawmakers were held as Trump supporters stormed the Capitol. I dont want to report a friend of 40 years, but hes says enough concerning statements that I feel like I need to do this... hes just fallen into this cult and these beliefs, the friend was quoted as saying.

The allegation stems from a conversation the officer had with a friend the week after the riot in which he allegedly revealed information about the secure location he helped evacuate lawmakers to during the riot.
The friend, who is referred to as ANONYMOUS in the documents, called the FBI tip line to report the conversation and expressed concerns that the agent subscribed to Trumps election conspiracy theories.
I dont want to report a friend of forty years but hes says enough concerning statements that I feel like I need to do this... hes just fallen into this cult and these beliefs, the documents quote the anonymous friend as saying in a subsequent interview with Capitol Police.
The agent denied that he was sympathetic to the cause of the rioters, but he acknowledged that he may have inadvertently shared information about the secure location.
I cant say one hundred percent that I didnt do what youre telling me I did, the agent told investigators.

and others who noticed family members or friends in the crowd shots. People have been doxxed, and as soon as someone is arrested, their name and mug shot get posted.
There were 500 or so Capitol Police on duty 1/6, and they fought valiantly. They were badly understaffed total number on the force is 2,200. Only 35 were/are under internal investigation. Of these, six (6) have been suspended.
So what dirty little secret do you think is being hidden? One guy who posed for a selfie wont have a career any more. One guy got turned in by a friend of 40 years the cop shot off his mouth, and finally the friend chose country over friend-who-turned-nutball.

(34,051 posts)have those sedition hunters released the names of those cops under investigation?
"tons of names" -- including those cops under investigation?
my "gripe" is when dirty cops quit in the nick of time or are fired and go get another job at another police department as if nothing has happened and they take their shit attitude and behavior with them only to continue being an asshole--and basically end up getting away with being exactly who/what they are
because of that i don't think their identities should be protected.
maybe you know if those 29 that are under investigation are still working at the capitol. i do not.
maybe you are aware of their names but i am not.
