Taliban-run Kabul municipality to female workers: Stay home

Source: AP

By KATHY GANNON

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Female employees in the Kabul city government have been told to stay home, with work only allowed for those who cannot be replaced by men, the interim mayor of Afghanistan’s capital said Sunday, detailing the latest restrictions on women by the new Taliban rulers.

Witnesses, meanwhile, said an explosion targeted a Taliban vehicle in the provincial city of Jalalabad, the second such deadly blast in as many days in an Islamic State stronghold.

The decision to prevent most female city workers from returning to their jobs is another sign that the Taliban, who overran Kabul last month, are enforcing their harsh interpretation of Islam despite initial promises by some that they would be tolerant and inclusive. In their previous rule in the 1990s, the Taliban had barred girls and women from schools, jobs and public life.

In recent days, the new Taliban government issued several decrees rolling back the rights of girls and women. It told female middle- and high school students that they could not return to school for the time being, while boys in those grades resumed studies this weekend. Female university students were informed that studies would take place in gender-segregated settings from now on, and that they must abide by a strict Islamic dress code. Under the U.S.-backed government deposed by the Taliban, university studies had been co-ed, for the most part.

The Afghan army stood down in 11 days. I have zero sympathy for Afghanistan or anyone in it.
If they won't stand up then do not expect American military personnel to die for you. This was a 20 year scam and I am pissed.

Afghanistan is not worth one more drop of American blood or one more cent of American money. Let China have it...they deserve each other.

What did they think was going to happen? I’m glad we are out of there. Until the populous vote in a reasonable president, I’d rather not give them a dime. The money will just go to current leadership.

Yes Joe did the right thing to get the heck of this country.

The Afghans are going to have to decide what kind of country they want to be.

The people who live in Afghanistan must decide what kind of government and laws they want to live under. Other countries should stay out of their internal affairs. We tried to change things for them and got burnt bad for our efforts. Let them fix it themselves.

that extreme in the context of the culture of Afghanistan. Compare it to people in the US protesting for gay marriage, not so many years ago.

The male population of Afghanistan is a disgrace to humanity. They teamed with the Taliban to replace qualified females with less-qualified, but politically-connected males.

This is their mindset. So what is the U.S. response? Send the country $2 trillion of military hardware, cash, and economic activity.

It’s beyond stupid, there are no words.

The Taliban isn't actively going out and executing all the women who had the nerve to work outside their homes.

That's progress, on some level....
