TORONTO (AP) On the final campaign day of a tight election battle, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau warned that his Conservative opponents would weaken the nations battle against the pandemic and said Canadians need a government that follows science.
Polls indicate Trudeaus Liberal Party is in a close race with the rival Conservatives and that it is unlikely on Monday to get the outright majority needed to govern without relying on an opposition party to remain in power.
We do not need a Conservative government that wont be able to show the leadership of vaccinations and on science that we need to end this, Trudeau said at a campaign stop in Montreal on Sunday.
Conservative leader Erin OToole has refused to say how many of his partys candidates are unvaccinated and Trudeau has been reminding Canadians of that at every opportunity.

(5,702 posts)Trudeau had 2 more years before he had to call the election and, if the polls are right, the results are going to be the same minority government he has now. This at a cost of $600 million in the middle of a pandemic.

(6,825 posts)Polls showed that he would get a majority. Things changed since then. But we could always get surprised.
I would suspect many Canadians would not mind a Liberal/NDP coalition. I know my friends in Canada would like to see that.

(5,702 posts)I just think Trudeau looked at other elections that happened during the pandemic and figured he'd have a cake walk. I'm not a fan of his and would prefer an NDP government.

(118,022 posts)good for them rather waiting to fall by a non confidence vote when maybe they are not so popular. This is not out of the ordinary except for the COVID 4th Wave.

(9,963 posts)pandemic in Alberta and that he did a better job than Trudeau. That statement right there should disqualify him as a PM. He is a liar and a joke, we do not need that kind of politics in Canada.

You'll have daily mass murders with legalized assault weapons.
You'll have privatized health care.
Women's rights will mimic Texas

(5,702 posts)Nationally, they're sucking 6 1/2% away from the Conservative vote. In the 3 prairie provinces (conservative strongholds), they have 10% or more. O'Toole will be lucky to get the same number of seats this election that he did in 2019.
