(14,674 posts)breakthrough infections happen across the spectrum.
Don't mask up. Don't follow social distancing. Don't reduce indoor exposure.
Win stupid prizes, no matter what vax you got.
btw, he is fit with no underlying conditions, and was even training for a local triathelon.

(102,188 posts)Personally, I am relieved as hell that he has been vaccinated--with any of the three. It strongly suggests he will be ok.
getagrip_already
(14,674 posts)Just asking really. But it seems to me the only reason to point it out with no other words is to imply he caught it because of his vax.
Clearly other people inferred it, as indicated by other comments.

(102,188 posts)Maybe take a clue from your username and stop trying to pick a fight that does not exist.
Lastly, if you think ANYONE on this board is suggesting the vaccine causes COVID illness, you have no idea where you are posting. NO IDEA at all. Maybe take a step back from any RW sites you may have frequented. We value science here! A lot of us are physicians, epidemiologists, other HCWs... and generally very very well educated on the subject and you'll find very little anti-vaxx tolerance much less COVID-related quackery and conspiracy theory.

(14,674 posts)All I did was push back at an obvious to me attempt to slur the jj vax.
Now you break out a flame thrower? You need a nap my friend.....

(102,188 posts)Attacking me for a simple statement of fact and then accusing me of promoting the suggestion that vaccines cause COVID? Are you kidding me?! I am the very last person you could credibly accuse of that! Nor did I say one thing whatsoever "smearing the J&J vaccine." I merely commented that he'd received it.
Perhaps you are having a bad day. Perhaps you are upset at break-through infections in your family. But, kindly realize WE are not your enemy. I hope you feel better. I really do, but I am done

(5,810 posts)Id like to see people say, Get the vaccine. Continue to practice things that help reduce your chance of picking up the virus. Limit or eliminate crowded situations. Mask up indoors such as grocery stores. Social distance. Wash hands.
The vaccine does not guarantee 100% you wont get Covid. It reduces your chances of getting it. It is not a get out of jail free card. If you do get it, you probably will not be as sick as an unvaxxed person. You will not be as likely to get sick enough to be hospitalized or die of Covid.
Dont be careless just because you are vaccinated. You are better off than the unvaccinated but not bulletproof. Prevent breakthrough Covid by using the things that will offer a little more protection which may be all you need to skip having Covid.
I agree Grammy.

(5,810 posts)He is fully vaccinated (months ago) but persists in doing things that put him at risk. He is a professional photographer whose occupation often puts him in close contact with clients. That I understand. It is his livelihood. But eating out is optional or could be take out only. My husband and I get take out occasionally. But my BiL goes to sit down restaurants with friends regularly. I fear one day well get the phone call that he tested positive. He is morbidly obese so his risks are higher, plus he is 62. He acts like he has ZERO risks since he is vaccinated. 😵💫

(21,417 posts)At the beginning of the delta wave, nobody locally (except me) was wearing masks. The county vaccination rate was around 40%. (I am fully vaxxed with Moderna.)
The infection rate went up to 10%. We now average 60 to 70 new cases per day, but sometimes go over 100 in a day. The entire county population is less than 130,000, the size of a small to moderate city. There have been deaths of fully vaccinated seniors who had breakthrough infections. Hospitalizations are up. One death was a healthy person between 20 and 30.
So, the county health director has a public service announcement running 24/7 on local radio stations, explaining the need for vaccinations AND masks. I am seeing more masks everywhere now. People are social distancing again in stores. The vaccination rate is up to 50% now. This afternoon I was at CVS and overheard a pharmacist asking a customer in the vaccination booth for her birth date. She was 16. I felt relieved to hear a teen getting her shots.
There are still groups of anti vaxxers and anti maskers hanging out together. A local Republican politician is pushing for parental choice regarding masks in schools but few people are listening to him now. The delta surge is sinking into people's awareness, finally.

(37,457 posts)Sadly, there is still a very very very small chance one could die after getting infected. My guess is that the *one* person I heard of dying, might have been immunocompromised and/or had other risk factors. In the report I heard, there were others who were vaccinated who were hospitalized, too.
Good advice. I try my best to follow it every day.

(18,497 posts)Most people getting sick in spite of being vaccinated are immune compromised in some way.
But not all.
Not bulletproof is exactly right.
It also isn't a magic cloaking device or however else you would want to put that.

(790 posts)Things are no where near back to "normal." The Delta variant of the Coronavirus is an unforgiving infector. A little careless forgetfulness goes a long way with this virus: it is always waiting. Case in point: The former governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie's nephew had a bar mitzvah party last weekend. Hardly a face mask was to be found at the event held at an enclosed party venue. As a result, a New Jersey middle school was forced to shut down and return to virtual classes after children who attended the party went back to school. As is so common in this pandemic, the scary math part happens next: the party attendees infected those at school who weren't even at the event, as well as folks at home and elsewhere. This tune has repeated itself many times in similar circumstances.
The infection rate in New Jersey is currently on the upswing. As a result, the CDC announced that New Jerseyans need to put their masks back on whether or not they are vaccinated. I never took mine off, even though I am fully vaccinated. With all of the precautions I take, I could still get infected. My point: take nothing for granted. This ain't over yet.

(1,178 posts)one should still take into account one's own health status ... factors like age, obesity, smoking, ect .... better to stay masked, and stay out of crowed indoor places. A vaccine is not a magical shield, and some seem to think it is ...
