Trump Organization Trial Is Scheduled for Next Summer, Judge Says
Source: New York Times
A Manhattan judge set a trial schedule for Allen Weisselberg and the Trump Organization on Monday that could coincide with the run-up to the 2022 midterm elections.
Former President Donald J. Trumps family business and its longtime chief financial officer are tentatively scheduled to go on trial for tax crimes at the end of next summer, a time frame that would overlap with the closing stretch of the 2022 midterm campaign season, potentially influencing races where Mr. Trumps presence could loom large.
A Manhattan criminal court judge set the schedule Monday during a court appearance for the Trump Organization and the longtime senior executive, Allen H. Weisselberg, as one of Mr. Weisselbergs lawyers suggested that charges against other individuals could be imminent in the long-running criminal inquiry into the business dealings of the company.
We have strong reason to believe there could be other indictments coming, said Bryan Skarlatos, a lawyer for Mr. Weisselberg, who has been charged with avoiding taxes on more than $1.7 million in perks that prosecutors said should have been reported as income.
While prosecutors from the Manhattan district attorneys office did not respond to Mr. Skarlatoss claim, they have been investigating other Trump Organization employees for receiving similarly undisclosed perks, such as rent-free apartments and leased cars.

(22,665 posts)And then Mitch McConnell will jump in saying it's all blah-blah-blah, and before you know it, the trail will be pushed off until the summer after that. This is how the RW wins and American justice constantly loses.

(4,986 posts)Let's not forget the Trump family has already once skated on a prosecution by Vance after they made a large contribution to his re-election campaign. Is the person who will be taking his place going to be up-to-speed on the prosecution by next summer, or will it just continue to be dragged further out in time?
I do wonder about Vance....

(1,701 posts)TFG: We need a delay until after the 2024 election
Judge: Why?
TFG: I'm running for potus and this would be a political attack job. Not fair, rude, bigly unfair.
Judge: OK, postponed until Jan 2025.

(14,165 posts)Pretty predictable that Trump's GOP will be using this as "proof" that the evil Democrats want to cancel their Dear Leader. And just like the Muller Report, where they had nothing (I know, I know), Just like the first impeachment, all liars and nothing to see here. Same with the House January 6th investigation.
This will be framed as just another example of how Democrats "trump" up fake charges to try and smear their side in order to win an election. And I'm afraid it will work. At least on their base as a way to get them to the polls. All they need is a strong R voters turnout to SAVE their orange messiah, combined with voter suppression laws and gerrymandering, to get them just enough votes to grab power.
