Songstress and music legend Sarah Dash has died. The beloved vocalist, best known for her work with the acclaimed R&B group Labelle, died on Monday at age 76. Dash's death was confirmed by her bandmates Patti LaBelle and Nona Hendryx on social media, both of whom shared heartfelt tributes to the beloved vocalist.
"We were just onstage together on Saturday and it was such a powerful and special moment," LaBelle wrote in a message posted to Twitter on Tuesday morning. "Sarah Dash was an awesomely talented, beautiful and loving soul who blessed my life and the lives of so many others in more ways than I can say."
"I could always count on her to have my back! That's who Sarah was ... a loyal friend and a voice for those who didn't have one," LaBelle continued. "She was a true giver... always serving, always sharing her talent and her time."
LaBelle expressed that she is "heartbroken" by the news of Dash's death, but that she knows "Sarah's spirit and all that she has given to the world live on!" "I pray that her precious memory brings us peace and comfort," the singer concluded. "Rest in power my dear sister. I love you always."

Wow. I thought I heard the end of a comment about this last evening on SiriusXM but missed the context.
The group LaBelle was of course huge, and especially here in the Philly metro area since the members were from this area, including Patti (who was born and raised here in Philly and the other 2 were from Trenton, NJ, or as it was pronounced "Trenh'enh" ).

The group was always way ahead of its time and of course Patti is still going strong despite a story not too dissimilar from Tina Turner.
R.I.P. Sarah...
THE song that really put them on the map (I still have my well-worn 45) -

(23,135 posts)My teacher told our class that she had heard a song on the radio that had a very risque line repeated multiple times. She wouldn't tell us what it meant, but as a third-year student, I was able to translate it.
EVERYBODY was asking me what it meant! (I used that little power to the best advantage I could! )

(128,372 posts)where the teacher was actually a young French woman who also talked about that song. She would just face palm it and snicker when we would bring it up (we knew what the translation was just from the verbs) and then would talk about some other songs, "more classic" like "Les Feuilles Mortes (Autumn Leaves) - Yves Montand . I remember she would bring in copies of her "Paris Match" news/magazine so that we could read actual "colloquial" French, and that could get a bit risque - especially the fashion stuff.

(1,811 posts)in school when the New York station played it. After it was over, the DJ, and I think it was Cousin Brucie (74?) came on and said they were getting calls and the phrase meant "Will you relax with me". LOL! I guess they bought it.
