China declares all cryptocurrency transactions illegal
Source: AP
BEIJING (AP) Chinas central bank on Friday declared all transactions involving Bitcoin and other virtual currencies illegal, stepping up a campaign to block use of unofficial digital money.
Chinese banks were banned from handling cryptocurrencies in 2013, but the government issued a reminder this year. That reflected official concern cryptocurrency mining and trading might still be going on or the state-run financial system might be indirectly exposed to risks.
Fridays notice complained Bitcoin, Ethereum and other digital currencies disrupt the financial system and are used in money-laundering and other crimes.
Virtual currency derivative transactions are all illegal financial activities and are strictly prohibited, the Peoples Bank of China said on its website.

(43,146 posts)Money laundering and crime? In Crypto??? Naw. These people moving billions all over the world at great cost of electricity and low cost are honest little businessmen, like your neighborhood grocery store.
Governments are so far behind on this.

(4,267 posts)Every transaction/movement of crypto is recorded in a blockchain. There are companies who even tweet about big movements of wallet to wallet and purchases they see in blockchains.
Very few people and companies own "billions" in crypto. Even less people and companies "move billions all over the world". lol
Inform yourself better. Your post is hilarious for people who know how crypto works.

(14,742 posts)But that, in a cumulative sense, is also correct. Maybe not in a small number of transactions, but accross the spectrum of transactions.
The fact remains that there are precious few legitimate uses for cryptocurrency. It's a speculative bend, with few places to actually spend it legally.
China made the correct move. We should follow suit.

(4,267 posts)The rest is no different than banking re: KYC. All crypto exchanges verify documentation and report transactions over $9,999 to the IRS and wallet to wallet movements. But the banks are a little bit nervous with crypto adoption so they're pushing for more regulations than they themselves are under which was predictable.

(15,787 posts)Too many companies are using it. It will be interesting to see the first company pay wages with Bitcoin. Im sure at this point it could be an option in some IT sectors.

I purchased Bitcoins for the purpose of holding them for a few years like I have been doing for a few years. The returns have been awesome.
I wouldn't buy Bitcoin for trading because as you said it's too volatile (which is great for the big boys).

there is nothing "equal" regarding the income in china.
if anything, they appear to be sliding toward a form of dictatorial fascism, but nothing like the world has seen before.
an odd blending of authoritarian rule

(4,267 posts)You claimed ES is "big" in the drug trade. None of those links prove it's not simply on par(or less) with other countries in the region who unfortunately suffer from this "shipping to the US users" tragedy.
Try harder to relate this to Bitcoin.
