Rep. Elaine Luria, endorsed by U.S. Chamber of Commerce, now targeted by its ad campaign
Source: Washington Post
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce surprised politicos everywhere when the typically Republican-friendly organization endorsed 23 freshman Democrats during last years election cycle including two moderates in Virginia, Reps. Elaine Luria and Abigail Spanberger.
This week, however, the Chamber appeared to issue an ultimatum to those lawmakers: Oppose Democrats proposed $3.5 trillion tax and spending package or risk losing the business community and the Chambers support.
The warning shot came in a six-figure ad campaign targeting Democratic lawmakers in five competitive districts across the country, including Lurias in Hampton Roads. The ads, which began airing on television Wednesday, urge voters to contact their lawmakers and tell them to oppose the package, which proposes an ambitious expansion of the social safety net and major policy responses to climate change, among other things.
Chamber of Commerce draws fire for risky bet on Democrats
The Chamber had promised to include the vote on this package in its annual scorecard that it consults to make its endorsements. The Chambers president and chief executive, Suzanne Clark, decried the tax and spending proposal as an existential threat to Americas fragile economic recovery and future prosperity, arguing a $3.5 trillion bill would exacerbate inflation. Clark also strongly opposed the tax hikes on corporations that Democrats have proposed to pay for it, arguing they would lead companies to cut jobs.

You'd think infrastructure would be one thing the business community could get behind. Fuck these phonies.

This is no longer about whether or not you think the corporate tax rate should be 22% instead of 25%.
The ONLY thing that is preventing a Russian style authoritarian government...the ONLY thing that will save Jeffersonian Democracy...the ONLY thing that will prevent Americans killing each other in the streets, is a complete and thorough defeat of the Retrumplican Party and Trumpism
Anything that works against the defeat of the Retrumplican Party is a vote for the destruction of the United States.
There is no nuance here!
This is a Constitutional Crisis. This is NOT politics as usual.
It is also so short-sighted, it borders on criminal.
Tell me Chamber, will businesses perform better with a return to their tax liabilities of just 10 years ago, or will they perform better with America embroiled in a hot Civil War, with China and Russia pulling the strings?
That is the choice you have.
Support the Retrumplican Party at your peril.
Or do you think 10's of millions Americans are going to stand by as their country is destroyed.
You can have the economy of Clinton and Obama, or you can have the economy of Afghanistan.
Choose wisely.

(58,785 posts)the initiali endorsement by that nest of snakes. Heading into the last election she took the really risky position of supporting tRump's impeachment. Not as strongly liberal as me, seemingly, but on what I feel is the right side of most issues.
Hope her voters think all the better of her for the CoC's threats.
