'Vigilante treatments': Anti-vaccine groups push people to leave ICUs

Source: nbc news

As the anti-vaccine movement escalates its rhetoric, doctors warn that they're dealing with the fallout: "They’re starting to target people, the messengers — nurses and doctors."

By Ben Collins

Anti-vaccine Facebook groups have a new message for their community members: Don’t go to the emergency room, and get your loved ones out of intensive care units.

Consumed by conspiracy theories claiming that doctors are preventing unvaccinated patients from receiving miracle cures or are even killing them on purpose, some people in anti-vaccine and pro-ivermectin Facebook groups are telling those with Covid-19 to stay away from hospitals and instead try increasingly dangerous at-home treatments, according to posts seen by NBC News over the past few weeks.

The messages represent an escalation in the mistrust of medical professionals in groups that have sprung up in recent months on social media platforms, which have tried to crack down on Covid misinformation. And it’s something that some doctors say they’re seeing manifest in their hospitals as they have filled up because of the most recent delta variant wave.
Anti-vaccine groups use code words, change to 'dance parties' to hide from Facebook
July 22, 202102:20

“We were down to four Covid patients two months ago. In this surge, we’ve had 40 to 50 patients with Covid on four different ICU services, 97 percent of them unvaccinated,” said Wes Ely, an ICU doctor and professor of medicine at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. “We were making headway, and now we’re just losing really, really badly. There’s something that’s happening on the internet, and it’s dramatically increasing steam.”

Those concerns echo various local reports about growing threats and violence directed toward medical professionals. In Branson, Missouri, a medical center recently introduced panic buttons on employee badges because of a spike in assaults. Violence and threats against medical professionals have recently been reported in Massachusetts, Texas, Georgia and Idaho...........................................................

Difficult and sad to believe no can--? can they STOP this dangerous trend.

Here's the full story about "vigilante medicine" on ivermectin Facebook.

Antivaxxers are starting to wrap doctors and ICUs into their dark conspiracy theories, as they suffer at home with ad-hoc COVID treatments that don't work.

I hope you read it.

Ivermectin believers have become 'radicalized' and now advocate 'inhaling food-grade hydrogen peroxide': reporter

September 24, 2021

Believers in treating COVID-19 with ivermectin have reportedly branched out in terms of their recommended treatments for the virus, which now include inhaling food-grade hydrogen peroxide.

NBC News reporter Ben Collins, who follows multiple pro-ivermectin and anti-vaccine Facebook groups, writes on Twitter that many of these groups have now become "radicalized" and are pushing for even more exotic remedies for COVID-19.

The problem these groups are encountering, writes Collins, is that their followers have quickly learned that ivermectin alone won't do the trick.

"So," writes Collins. "They developed a makeshift 'protocol.'"........................

...................................

@oneunderscore__

Obviously, keep taking the ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine, the ivermectin groups say.

But also gargle iodine. Buy a nebulizer and inhale food-grade hydrogen peroxide.

Anything but the vaccine.

?s=20

As they’re home self-medicating, antivaxxers are furious that friends and family won’t be administered ivermectin at the hospital.

So they’ve developed directions on how to get loved ones out of ICUs: put them in hospice care, then get them the miracle cures from YouTube.

?s=20

They’ve developed elaborate conspiracy theories about doctors and nurses in the process.

They believe ventilators and remdesivir are secretly drowning patients’ lungs, not COVID itself.

QAnon boards have begun calling hospitals to harass workers for not prescribing ivermectin.

?s=20

Ivermectin Facebook is a wildly dark scene, an inverted reality where medical consensus is an elaborate conspiracy to kill you and random people on Facebook have the secret cure.

As Dr. Aditi Nerurkar tells me, "They’re starting to target the messengers—nurses and doctors.”

More beds for people who should survive this as opposed to those who have displayed a complete lack of intelligence or common sense. Those people did not need to breed in the first place and the sooner we can remove them from the gene pool, the better. Yes, this stance is harsh, but so is life and so is COVID-19.

They've decided about doctors, about medicine, about blame, about treatments. If they want ivermectin and don't want an ICU, that is their choice, sad as it is. Why do they even bother with the hospital? If a patient wants to eat sand and believes it cures him, how can you stop him? It kills him, he did what he believed and wanted to do. They trust no one, except TFG, they just launch into another gear ratio of paranoia and turn up the volume. Prepare for berserkers, a real period of lunatic rage. Until they burn it out of their systems no one is safe.

They are harassing and assaulting healthcare workers. Families are bombarding hospitals with phone calls demanding Dr. Google and Dr. Facebook-Feed's recommended treatments. They need to stay home and dose on Ivermectin and fire up the hydrogen peroxide nebulizers while prayer warriors babble and stop hogging hospital beds.

Wonder why zombies, zombie apocalypse, and zombie preparedness continue to live or walk dead on a CDC web site? As it turns out what first began as a tongue-in-cheek campaign to engage new audiences with preparedness messages has proven to be a very effective platform. We continue to reach and engage a wide variety of audiences on all hazards preparedness via “zombie preparedness”.

1. Americans promote religion.

2. America has a for profit medical and hospital system.

One encourages belief without evidence and the other has a built-in distrust of the motives of our healthcare workers and institutions.

Blind faith in a magical god just encourages blind faith in other things. If a magical god can grant prayers, then maybe this magic can be used in other things you don't understand. And medical outcomes are frequently unpredictable so maybe magic is all you need. Or this totally unqualified person on the internet has the magic you want. No evidence for their claims, no problem. I believe in a god with no evidence, why not a magical cure from a magical stranger.

Then there is our healthcare system. A system designed by greed. Who would you prefer as a doctor: A doctor who wants lots of money to buy his 2nd house, or a doctor who wants to help people and save lives? I know who I would want. Anything done for profit and greed must be scrutinized to ensure trust. Someone making your clothes for profit probably won't hurt you badly if they used cheap material and sloppy methods. But someone trying to convince you you need surgery because they need the money is not going to be trustworthy and can seriously hurt you if he's sloppy.

Without religion and a for profit medical system, there would be a lot fewer idiots. Also, breaking up Facebook's monopoly would help everyone.

What the article in the link above doesn't mention is that the man who died, Joe McCarron, was active in recent years in Irish "Freeman of the Land" circles (or when they deny it, it becomes "I can't believe they're not FOTL" ) so it's no surprise that he became at least somewhat associated with gobshites promoting this crap.
