Brazil hit by new blackout, infrastructure in spotlight

Source: Reuters

A massive blackout left as many as 53 million Brazilians in the dark late Thursday and early Friday, the latest in a string of energy shortages that have raised questions about whether Brazil's infrastructure is keeping pace with economic growth.

Officials said a fire in a substation in the Amazon knocked out the whole electricity grid of northeastern Brazil in the region's worst blackout since 2001. The outage lasted up to four hours in some places.

In the city of Recife residents left without air conditioning and ventilators complained they could not sleep due to the heat and mosquitoes.

"There was a total collapse of the northeastern grid," acting Energy Minister Marcio Zimmermann said.

Sorry to say so, but an incident in the Amazon region is unlikely the reason.
The Amazon region is not yet connected to the rest of the Grid, this 500kV line is still under construction.
There was even no Capacity limit as this day still provided 29% headroom.
Critical points on the Grid exist, but are constantly going to be eliminated.
To raising Panic the Worldcup could be no sucess because of Powerproblems doesnt help at all.

Maybe to remember the Blackout in 2009 just 4 days before an Delegation was arriving for an official talk about Security and Power for the preparation of the Worldcup and the Olympics.
There is evidence this Incident was Man made. There is even an Document leaked which confirmed that.
So if somebody is mentioning its better to hold that Worldcup in the US .... no further comment.

The newest incident i dont know how it comes. i just wonder how Reuters come to that version.
no Brazilian news sources mention that.

Of course it will be a lot of opportunity for some conspiracy theory
