FBI data show surge in murders in 2020

Source: NBC News

Murders rose by nearly 30 percent in 2020, with more than 21,500 reported last year, according to the FBI's annual Uniform Crime Report.

The total was up from 16,669 in 2019, according to the FBI, one of the sharpest increases in murders in several years. The national homicide rate, 6.5 per 100,000 people, is still lower than it was during much of the 1990s.

"That's an unprecedented one-year rise," said Richard Rosenfeld, a criminology professor at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

..

Reports of violent crime, which includes homicide, rape, aggravated assault and other crimes, also were up last year. The rate of violent crime spiked by about 5 percent, to 398.5 reported incidents per 100,000 people, according to FBI data.

completely random assaults have gone up in my neighborhood. Break-ins of businesses and cars and so on have gone up. There was a dude randomly shooting marbles with a slingshot to break apartment windows. Our building's garage door got spray painted with "Trump won" probably because of a Biden sign in someone's window.

The US has experienced its largest-ever recorded annual increase in murders, according to new statistics from the FBI, with the national murder rate rising nearly 30% in 2020 – the biggest jump in six decades.

Nearly 5,000 more Americans were murdered across the country last year than the year before, even as rape, robbery, and other property crimes fell, according to FBI figures.

But the single-year jump in murders, the largest since current record keeping began in 1960, has fueled debate about the broader social effects of the coronavirus pandemic. National statistics show that no other crime category surged to the same extent that murder did: the nation’s overall violent crime rate increased just 5%, according to the data.

Stark racial disparities in who is most at risk of being murdered continued into 2020: Black Americans, who make up about 14% of the population, represented more than half of the 2020 victims whose race was known. But the number of murders also increased sharply across racial groups. Compared with 2019, the number of white males murdered rose 27%, while the number of Black males murdered rose 31%, according to data on the victims whose race was recorded.

I assume one is the YoY increase in percentage and the other is the numbers of extra murders in actual numbers.

…this isn’t all Trumpers. 2020 had people locked up in their homes for long periods of time. The divorce rate went up as people realized their relationships worked when they only saw each other a few hours a day in a normal week.

Anger, resentment and rage went way up as people were in their homes, jobless and scrapping for food. The human mind and its flaws and the entire year of 2020 is a good blame on why crime and murder and divorce went up.

Though, the reason people were locked up, was because Trump’s pandemic response. But not all the ones that murdered or went into rages were Trumpers.

My theory is that gun murders reflect the 'replacement theory,' along with shooters gambling on not getting caught. Old stats show that only 1-2 murders are adjudicated, there are just too many, and so armed nazis could be playing the odds. Any pretext -- climate disaster or covid spikes -- is a good cover for racism, especially if more blacks are murdered than whites. This could be a slow roll runup to a race war.

In the longer term, though, the massive increase in gun purchases will likely translate into more gun violence: The research consistently shows that where there are more guns, there are more gun deaths.

The logic is straightforward: People all over the world, since the beginning of time, have gotten into arguments, feuds, and fights. When there’s a gun around, though, it’s simply much easier for those fights to escalate into deadly violence.

This is one of the primary reasons America, which has the highest rate of civilian gun ownership in the world, has more gun deaths than any other developed nation. A 2018 study in JAMA found the US’s civilian gun death rate is nearly four times that of Switzerland, five times that of Canada, 35 times that of the United Kingdom, and 53 times that of Japan. Based on the research, the high rates of civilian gun ownership are a primary cause.

The fears around coronavirus, then, stand to make America’s gun problem even worse.

They project, with the help of corporate Nazis, a culture of pathology on Democrats and all their non-white members.

They criminalize political engagement to excuse their own criminality.
