Biden nominates 9 candidates for federal prosecutor posts

WASHINGTON (AP) President Joe Biden is nominating nine lawyers to run U.S. attorneys offices across the country, a diverse group of candidates in the latest round of picks for the top law enforcement positions.
The nominations, announced by the White House on Tuesday, are expected to run the federal prosecutors offices in Hawaii, Rhode Island, North Carolina, Colorado, Ohio, Vermont and the U.S. Virgin Islands. They would include several historic firsts, including the first Black female attorneys to lead their districts, the Biden administration said.
The Justice Departments 93 U.S. attorneys, who are responsible for federal criminal prosecutions in their respective districts, are central to the Biden administrations efforts to combat violent crime.
The candidates were chosen for their devotion to enforcing the law, their professionalism, their experience and credentials in this field, their dedication to pursuing equal justice for all, and their commitment to the independence of the Department of Justice, the White House said.

President Biden is announcing nine new nominees to serve as U.S. Attorneys across the country, officials who will be indispensable to upholding the rule of law as the top federal law enforcement officials for their districts.
These individuals were chosen for their devotion to enforcing the law, their professionalism, their experience and credentials in this field, their dedication to pursuing equal justice for all, and their commitment to the independence of the Department of Justice.
The President has launched a comprehensive effort to take on the uptick in gun crime that has been taking place for the last 18 monthsputting more cops on the beat, supporting community prevention programs, and cracking down on illegal gun trafficking. Confirming U.S. Attorneys as the chief federal law enforcement officers in their district is important for these efforts.
The President has now announced 25 nominees to serve as U.S. Attorneys.
